Tonight my 18 yo daughter and her friend got stuck on Woodland in the ditch (and my daughter is a new driver!). Maplewood DPW came and helped put some salt down, then Officer Leahy (not sure if that's spelled right) -- helped get her unstuck. He then followed her all the way home to make sure she was ok. HUGE THANK YOU TO THE OFFICER! I AM VERY THANKFUL! Pete |

Oh Wow Peter! I'm so glad she made it home safe! You must have been a wreck seeing the snow pile up knowing she was out driving in it. And getting to your house from Woodland in this weather isn't easy, new driver or not. I bet she won't want to drive for awhile! |

Just re read my post -- if it wasn't clear - a BIG thanks to the Maplewood DPW, too! Pete |

They also did an excellent job at plowing after a very big snowfall. Compare Maplewood streets with Valley St. The latter is a county road.

Um, not quite Tom. My street has barely been touched, and is way worse than Valley Street, which is right at the bottom of our hill. As a matter of fact, when we were out romping in the snow yesterday, we saw a line of 5 or 6 giant plows go right past us on Valley. They were obviously private contractors, probably paid by the county, and not our DPW trucks. Perhaps our guy was on a 24-hour coffee break, laughing and staying warm at Dunkin Donuts, while we struggle to get up or down the hill? Obviously, I'm very frustrated. They were by once very early yesterday morning, and THAT WAS IT! |

And I become even more frustrated every time I hear about all the other streets in town that are clear. |

I confess I didn't do a thorough survey before posting that. Sorry to hear they left you buried. I guess given this, it makes sense that the schools are closed.
