What ever happened to the cell phone tower that was supposed to be built near the Village? I thought the legal impediments were thrown out. Reception remains appalling. Does anyone have information? |

Something must have happened somewhere along the line. I could never get reception in my own house (Essex Avenue) for years and suddenly a couple of months ago it improved 100%. Been great ever since. Maybe a tower went up or something? I have Cingular. |

I WANT that tower. My service sucks, both on phone (Verizon) and Blackberry (T-Mobile). Bring it on! |

Yes, Verizon works in town. Reception is weak inside the stores and the diner - but that's all to the good as far as I'm concerned. Step outside and the signal is just fine. |

Verizon gets better signal the further west you go in the village (up the hill). I agree that we need a tower; just not smack in the middle of the golf course. It's in a valley. A shorter one could be built if it were located somewhere higher up. What about the commercial properties, like the old Verizon propery or over by DHC? |

Greentree: It's not smack in the middle of the golf course, it's at the extreme southern edge of it, just a couple hundred feet from the southern edge of Maplewood. And there actually is a Verizon cell tower on the Public Works lot adjacent to the old Verizon property (it's been there a long time). It's too far away to serve the valley. |

Yes it is in the valley. Just about as low as you get in Maplewood. The stream goes right by where they plan to put it, and from there the stream passes into Union. Show me a lower spot to put a tower in Maplewood. What a dumba** idea! Oh yes, remember, even Verizon said that it would not make very much difference in reception. Only a few percentage points. And for that they are going to reduce property values for the surrounding neighbors. How about that for being neighborly? I don't care that they are going to "disguise" the tower as a tree. At 125 feet everybody will know that it is a fake. In my opinion, anyone who approves of this action is not helping improve Maplewood, but is more likely thinking selfishly about their telephone toy. Cell phones are only the latest fad. (Does anyone remember cassette tapes?) When the cell phone fad is gone we are going to be looking at this tower for many more years. I sincerely hope that it is not built. |

T-Mobile works extremely well in Maplewood Village. When I go deep into the stores or movie theater, the signal remains strong. It gets weak around Maplecrest Park.

That just makes too much sense. The sight-line from the mountain is unbeatable. And much higher than the planned tower. Alleygater, stick around long enough and it will happen. I can't guess what's next. |

they should put one on the roof of that country club. Or maybe in the golf course - make it an obstacle, like a windmill or that clown with the tongue thing. |
