Does anyone know whether the fire department is still accepting donations of old bicycles?

No. They discontinued that years ago.

The police department holds an auction every year or two, though I don't think they would volunteer to take more than they already pick up. But it's worth asking.

What do you have? If you can't find a way to unload it, I might have a use for it. I have a hobby of fixing up old bikes. I'm building a workshop in my basement.

The CHS Ultimate Frisbee team is holding a garage sale/fundraiser on Saturday, April 29 at the Student Parking Lot on Parker Avenue.
While we don't have room to accept merchandise ahead of time, please feel free to stop by after 9 AM on that day to donate your bike [as long as it's in good condition] or other sports equipment, household items, etc. The sale and a frisbee clinic for kids will run from 10-3

Lib, tournament registrations, insurance, transportation and lodging for out of state tournaments, and yes matching t-shirts, a few dozen frisbees, some tape, and because this is the big time, orange cones to mark the fields.

The frisbee team is not (or was not last I knew) actually associated with the high school and receives no district funds.

come on by!

The team gets no money from CHS or the BOE.
This is a nationally ranked team that often goes to the final round of high school level competitions.
All travel costs are paid for by parents and fundraisers such as the one on April 29th.
For those who are new to the area, Ultimate Frisbee began in Maplewood in 1968.
It's a terrific game that is played by high school and college students around the world!

Bill232:

Thanks for the information. I was afraid of that.

Southorangemom:

These two bikes have been sitting in our basement gathering dust for over twenty years. At the very least they would need thorough cleaning and new tires. Therefore, I doubt they would meet your criteria.

The fire department used to take old bikes and fix them up and donate them to people who needed bikes but couldn't afford them. I would have liked to see them go to people who really needed them.

I'd be willng to donate my repair services if you'd like to see them in the hands of people who will use them. What's the best way to find those people?
