Hi Ya'll:

Did anyone go to the above function this week? They had to guest speaking about the current real estate market in the Hilton section.

If someone did go can you please give me a gist of what was said?

Thanks.

no they didn't, don't lie the values would go up. We want to re-develop the area. This will bring a lot of people into the area and help with the whole springfield avenue project. Actually it should be the centerpiece. Otherwise that area will continue to languish. Just look at what new stadiums did for many large cities like Baltimore. The stadium there led the way for a renasance (spell it wrong). Or what NJPAC or Bears stadium did for Newark. Look at the property values there. Don't you want things to get better in our area?

We all want to see things get better all over town but putting carpeting down on a playing field used by children's recreation teams isn't going to have much impact on real property values anywhere in town.

I think people like the idea of living near parks,
and I'll wager the proposed upgrade to DeHart Park will have a positive effect on
property values in the immediate area.

Joan, I believe you're wrong about this one. New young families considering moving to Maplewood are very concerned about our schools and especially their sports programs. All other things being equal, having this new carpeted field will make the difference every time. You can bet every real estate agent showing property in town will have this amenity high on their list of reasons to buy here over other towns nearby without one.

1. njpac has done nothing for the newark area. it is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and you still cant walk farther than 1 block away after 10 pm without risking your life

2. the bears stadium also did nothing for newark. see above.

3.maplewood is not building a stadium. not even comparable

Getting back on topic (and then into a totally different arena), anyone know what was discussed at the Hilton meeting?

Did the guest speaker, or anyone else for that matter, bring up the "reval" topic that was discussed by the TC at last week's meeting and how that would impact taxes in the Hilton area? I happened upon the meeting on tv last week just when they were all debating when the next reval could occur.
