There is going to be a big celebration at the Maplewoods Womans Club Sunday morning that around 400 people are going to attend. I hear there's going to be some kind of bike race that will close off some streets. Anyone know which streets will be closed ?. We want to warn visitors from out of our towns and give them alternate routes.

Calm down Uke, don't get all worked up.

Here are the FACTS as provided by Maplewood Online:

June 11, 2006
Tri-Town Bike Day
Time: 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Information: Tri-Town Bike Day has been designed to promote safe, family-friendly biking as an exercise and transportation alternative in and connecting the three towns of Maplewood, Millburn and South Orange. The three towns have been strongly supportive of the creation of safe bike routes - and we expect all three mayors to ride with us on Sunday.

Join us for a fun, safe ride! (Streets will be closed to traffic for the ride).

We will start the day at 9:30 in the Millburn Library parking lot for the official opening of Brookside Drive as a Sunday morning bikeway - it will be closed to vehicular traffic every Sunday morning from now on! There will be food and drink give-aways, free bike-tuneups and stretching exercises, and registration for a free bike give-away (courtesy of High Gear Cyclery) at a drawing in South Orange at the end of the day.

The group will ride to Maplewood Memorial Park - arriving at about 11:15, for food and drink, kid events, bike safety demonstrations, stretching exercises, and give-aways courtesy of the Colavita Foundation for Children and Kings.

At 12:30 the group will ride to the South Orange Duck Pond for food and drinks (courtesy of the Seton Hall University GDS) for an art show and where the drawing for the free bike will be made. A bus offering rides back to Millburn will be available for those who left their car at the library (with a secure bike-check in South Orange if you need to leave your bike while fetching your car).

We hope you will join us on June 11 and support the creation of the Maplewood Bikeway, the South Orange Rahway River Bike/Pedestrian Corridor, and the development of bike paths in Millburn.

Helmets are required of all riders.

Thanks Johnny. I read the info here, what concerns me is, "(Streets will be closed for the ride)". Brookside Drive being closed is no sweat but they have to get to Memorial Park and if they close down main roads (like Maplewood or Valley) between 9:30-10, it can be problematic. Anyone know the exact route of the race and what streets will be closed?.

Rich Wener very graciously called me and said the street closings would be very minimal. Looks like I was worried for nothing.
