Seems Delucaites picked up a bunch but considering who is up for the next three years for election, it hardly matters. Too bad. |

"As a novice, I never thought it would be as close as it was," Adams said. ...being the election was as close as it was, and that Nancy was so focused on maintaining the community’s character in the face of development, maybe she should run again next year? Now that would be something I would actually call reaffirming! |

Quote:Too bad.
I for one am quite happy that many of the district leaders who really have been involved for many years in the Democratic Party were elected to do the job that district leaders should do. Between that and the 28 vote difference, not a bad night at all. Wendy Lauter District 19 resident |

Well, this is a vote that will need to be certified once absentee ballots are included. This is what is says on the New Jersey Division of Elections webpage (at http://www.state.nj.us/lps/elections/absentee_doe.html): "In New Jersey, any voter can now vote by Absentee Ballot for any election. You do not need a reason for an Absentee Ballot. A voter may apply for an absentee ballot by completing an Absentee Ballot Application (see below) and mailing the application to their County Clerk by mail up to 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m., the day before the election. The County Clerk cannot accept faxed copies of an Absentee Ballot Application since an original signature is required." So let me congratulate Ken and Kathy on a fine showing, however this turns out. I think the election also shows Nancy's popularity and I hope that she runs again, but learns the lessons of this time and runs a cleaner campaign next round. The negative advertising alone may have cost her the election. Finally, Lester deserves thanks not only for making this election a contest, but for fighting the county government seat held by that corrupt guy in Irvington. It is a shame that run didn't get more publicity. Perhaps he should contest that seat again with backing from Booker this time? If not him, then someone else from our area should contest it -- perhaps Vic would carry weight in other towns represented by this county seat? In any case, Lester was right to focus on this seat and think about how to fight it. For this, we will need in time to work closely with Cory Booker -- once things are running smoothly for him in Newark.

Don't know what the exact final numbers were, but personally, I agree with John Davenport. I liked Nancy's economic development background and many of her responses at the Hilton debate, but the negative advertising was a real turn off for both my husband and me. She should run again -- we'd definitely consider her if she ran strictly on her own merits and platform. We really didn't like the negative approach she and Lester used. As soon as we got the literature, we pretty much eliminated them as choices. |

I think that a congrads is in order for Ken but I still think that the leaders of the democratic party in town need to quit arguing start acting like a cohesive group. Again, I think that town politics should not be based upon which party is in power but what is best for Maplewood and her residents. The bickering and childishness is very sad and makes me ashamed of the party heads. There needs to be a movement to mend the party and the feeling that there are two Maplewoods one side of the tracks versus the other. So MR. Profeta, how about it? David Huemer, how about it. Stop actinb like toddlers and act like leaders. cecilia david |

"Then call them to our presence; face to face, And frowning brow to brow, ourselves will hear The accuser and the accused freely speak: High-stomach'd are they both, and full of ire, In rage deaf as the sea, hasty as fire."
