The backlash against the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party for the negative ad about Ken Pettis' parking preferences has done more than deliver a not-so-resounding primary victory to well-liked candidates Ken and Kathy. It has also apparently awakened several dozen frustrated commuters who have now learned that it would be easier to run for elective office in town than find a parking spot for their morning's commute. "I figure it's only going to cost me a few thousand dollars to run," said one irked candidate-to-be. "I figure sure, I'll have to have a few opinions and show up to meetings, but that beats searching endlessly for my morning spot." Another woman standing in the rain for hours drenched with rain while collecting signatures was smiling gleefully when this reporter asked her "what's up"? "I think the parking perk is definitely going to get more people active in local politics." When asked if she voted for or against Ken because of the negative ad the soaked citizen was to the point. "It wasn't about the parking. It's that he drives an SUV. We're at war, you know." By 4pm, a line of 80 commuters had formed outside the closed Town Hall, prepared to camp overnight and be the first to submit their petitions for TC candidacy and the dream of easy parking.
