I got a ticket parking on the street near the train station before 9am (8:26) on a weekday. I drove down to the station with $3 ready to park in one of the lots, but all spots were taken. My option was to go home and wait until after 9am...not really an option as I have to earn a living, or park in the street. What's a guy supposed to do? Salt in the wound (in addition to my $10,000 in taxes that evidently does not go towards additional parking) = as I'm walking through the 3hr parking lot people are parking there and heading to the train! I wonder if they all get tickets. |

Some people get a kick out of seeing if they can get away with not paying the daily fee. It's an NJT lot, so I don't know how they collect the money. You can bite the bullet and get a parking permit at Town Hall. I'm sure there are legal parking spots before 9a, but I don't know which streets. They are guaranteed to be a hike. There is also the jitney. I think they run thru most of town. |

People park on Meadowbrrok by the hill in South Orange all the time before the 7am posted time. Then walk to the train. I rarely see tickets on their cars. |

Peter: Did you check the NJT parking lot on the other side of the tracks (by Baker Street)? I understand there are often spaces there at that hour. |

I'll tell you where to get some free, convenient parking. About once a week a woman commuter in a green Forester parks across the street from the police station in the 20 minute zone. As far as I know, she has never been ticketed. I have often wondered why. So there you have it! Apparantly the police/parking enforcement don't bother you there. We should all park in that space! |

You're talking about Maplewood, right? There's parking on the streets without any restrictions if you're willing to walk ten minutes from your space to the train. I don't know where it is on the west side of the tracks. The closest place on the east side is around Oakview Ave, east of Prospect St. I understand the west side spots are even closer.

By 8.20am you can only park on the very top of the Oakview Ave, close to Prospect. Otherwise everything else is pretty much taken. You do need a town parking permit to park there though. |

The pay lot across from Arturos almost always has spaces until 8:45 anyway. When I have parked there at that hour there are often more spots. And it isn't a long walk from there to the station. How taxes figure into this is sort of beside the point. Though I am sorry you got a ticket, but you knew the risk when you did it. Better here than getting a parking ticket below 96th stree in Manhattan, no? |

What a minute! Did anyone else notice the name of the poster who started this thread? Any relation to Dave and Jamie? |

Oh, I am sure there are at least 20 different Ross families in town! As far as that ticket is concerned, my only advice is don't let it go! Pay it! If you don't, they can issue a warrant for your arrest and revoke your drivers license. No joke! |

Obviously you should pay the ticket. You deserve it. As others have pointed out, if you're willing to park far enough away you don't need a permit. Now that school's out I think you can park on Kensington Terrace. |
