We are in serious need of town tree trimming. Our block alone had branches fall on several sidewalks today(Town trees, and branches that would kill people)...eventually, they will, and the town will be directly to blame for failure to properly maintain the trees. |

Smarty, Get in touch with the town about this via a letter immediately. You will be placed on a waiting list; it might take up to a year. This is what thousands a year in taxes will get you!

A quicker method would be to call public works, give them the precise location of the trees in question and explain the potential hazard. If all the dead braches are already down and/or the remaining dead branches aren't heavy enough to do much damage, they may not give your problem as high a priority as very large dead limbs (still attached to a town tree) which are in danger of taking out unsuspecting vehicles passing on a major artery but they will likely send someone to check out the problem and get to remedying it when they can. Another option is to trim any such trees on your property yourself. We have done this is the past. |

I've found that if a tree is tangling up a utility wire, calling DPW directly gets pretty fast action. BTW- kudos (?) to whomever was out removing the very large branch that had fallen from my neighbor's tree across the street at 4am this morning. Boy is that equipment loud in the middle of the night! I'm just glad that it was a weekend and I didn't have to get up in a couple hours. |

When you call you should emphasize 1}) that there are dead limbs in danger of falling that are large enough to hurt/kill (!) people and 2)that the tree should be trimmed, not cut down entirely, if the rest of the tree is fine. We have seen numerous instances in the past several years where they have just cut down large and beautiful trees: one was a weeping cherry with a crooked trunk that had been crooked for at least as long as we'd been on the block, which was sixteen years at that point.

Just remember a few workers are taking care of many trees. I am sure they are doing the best they can and that the more urgent trees are done first. |

In my experience the Shade Tree Commission is not easy to work with. I'm not sure why but they don't seem to be very responsive. Could be lack of resources, who knows.
