It is disturbing to see the condition of the tennis courts right next to the recreation center at Memorial Park. I believe that these courts were refurbished just last year and now they are filled with tire marks and obscene graffiti. Yesterday, I saw parents allowing their children to ride their bikes on the three courts, which, obviously, destroys them. There is a sign that clearly states that the courts should be used for tennis only. The town should hire someone to enforce the rules during daylight hours before locking the courts at night. |

Who is going to pay for that? Full time unionized city employees cost over $100,000 per year, each. And if you see kids damaging or vandalizing public property, say something. I would and do. To the kids, not the parents.

I don’t think that it is my responsibility to police the courts. The town should have someone to enforce the rules, at least at these courts. Isn't there an individual who runs the rec. center during the day? The courts should be locked unless a resident signs up to use them. |

I agree with Chris. It is simple enough to tell the kids not to ride their bikes on the tennis courts. A quick message to the recreation department telling them that you see this on a regular basis wouldn't hurt either. I would hate to see the tennis courts kept locked or guarded but there might be other action the town could take long term to ease the situation. |

Putting up fences that have an L-shape entrance that allows people in but makes it difficult to impossible to carry in any apparatuses (bikes, hockey goals, etc.) may be the way to go. Ive seen them in other towns. Unfortunately though, its another expense that needs to be borne because people disregard or are unaware of proper usage of public property and other folks dont wish to take the basic responsibility of being a citizen of a town and say something when they see something isnt right. Its everyone's town -- it's everyone's responsibility. |
