Ok - so yesterday we had our driveway reasphaulted so we couldn't park on it last night. We parked our cars on the street. The driveway was clearly blocked off with caution tape and cones. We come out this morning and got parking tickets. Is this police force really that unfair? I am just so frustrated by this - I come from Montclair and even though pakring tickets in that town were the number 1 source of income - they would have notice the whole barrier to the driveway and maybe put a warning on the car. |

Sorry - that's a bummer. Just for future ref - if you call the Police and let them know you need to park in the street and for how long, they'll take your license plate number and won't give you a ticket. We did that when we had our sidwalk redone. |

FWIW - you may try talking to them about the situation - take pictures of your driveway and how it's blocked off and bring them in and see if you can get a pardon this time...you never know - it's worth a shot. |

Ditto both of LilLB's post above. Unless the streets have snow on them, you can get permission to park in the street if you let the PD know about it in advance. FYI...After the ticket is written, I don't think the PD can do anything about it -- speak with them anyway, though. If they can't, take the pictures to court and speak with the judge...s/he may waive it. |

Thanks - I'll give it a try. It's just so dissapointing. Here we are trying to make our house look better which is good for the neighborhood and town and we end up getting $60 in tickets. I just think that the police should be allowed to use their discretion in a situation like this. |

Colleen- if the police department cannot help you, you will surely win if you take pictures to court...this happened to me last year and I did have to pay something towards court costs but it was less than the dern ticket! Good luck. B |

I don't think you can necessarily win just because...but the judge and prosecutor are probably understanding to minor adjustments for residents how failed to report the car being on the street. When you get your permits they should allow you to address that with code enforcement. Obviously any driveway upgrades to a home would require onstreet parking. As would most dumpster permits... The only problem is can Two government units communicate to each other to get this done to streamline the process for residents???? |

It's just mean and unnecessary to do this to a resident. Occasionally I just forget to bring my car in from the street and I get a ticket. Can't they just give a warning?? I guess my 5 digit taxes are not enough to make up for an honest mistake. |
