Maybe some brief pilaging is ok, though.

I thought the licensing year was March to March? Where did Auntie see this? The Snooze Wreckered? Is that a blog?
I have a fair backgroundn in zoning and am not sure how an ordinance can be written and then just disregarded when it comes to the time tables outlined.
Please inform.

I would guess that you can apply at anytime-the first year would end on 3/31/07.

Pyrrhic victory for ajc, possibly. After reading his vitrolic posts here on MOL, I suspect I wouldn't be the only one with doubts about sending a friend or relative to his establishment.

Anyway, good luck to ajc AND to his neighbors.

Weekends
If you haven't met Art in person, please do. I'm sure if you rang his bell he'd be happy to whip you up some blueberry pancakes! He's a really nice guy. I know people who have witness the town meeting personally and have seen first hand the attacks Art's had to endure from some people. Really nasty, from what I've been told. Sadly though, I think you might be right if all people know about Art is what's been in these threads. Please take some time to meet him in real life. Maybe post what you think. I think you just might be surprised, and change your opinion.

Your post shows that you have a more tolerant spirit than I do, JTA. After reading his ScReAmInG posts here, I have zip desire to meet him in real life. I try to avoid him in MOL land, too.

...JTA, thank you for being a voice of reason. To answer your question, many people who visit Maplewood have children, and so do the families they visit.

Visitors come to Maplewood for weddings and funerals, birthdays and anniversaries, parties, house shopping, business, and many to visit family at Winchester Gardens or Seton Hall. Often they need babysitting services, and who better to call than Librarylady...

These welcome new visitors to our town are in most cases the family and friends of your neighbors. Yes, think about that a little… If you believe we have a great community with nice people, then what could be better than having the families of these nice people visiting us, and staying over? Being able to have family and friends stay in one of four bed and breakfast in town, means it would be easier for everyone to get around and spend more quality time together. It also means they will be spending time in town shopping in our stores and dinning in our restaurants.

I'd like to take this opportunity to also thank the various committees in town who over the past several years have studied this new source of economic development, and especially three of the Township Committee members, Kathy Leventhal, Ken Pettis, and our Mayor Fred Profeta for their vision and courage to see this through and bring this valuable service to our community.

I want to mention that South Orange is in my view the next town we should focus on. It has many large and wonderful properties to do bed and breakfast. A hotel study for the Beifus site a few years ago showed a need for a 120 room hotel.

The new ordinance in Maplewood only allows a maximum of 16 rooms between the four B&B's permitted in this ordinance. This leaves an anticipated deficit of over 100 more rooms still needed. Because this ordinance is so restrictive to prospective innkeepers, not just for operating their businesses, but also personally on how they will be forced to live their lives, I doubt if there will be a rush for applications anytime soon.

Finally, I’d like to give a very special thanks to everyone else who supported me and the concept over the years. Without all of you, today I would be cooking coffee under the Baker Street Bridge...

Seriously, this new bed and breakfast ordinance is just the beginning of a very useful and valuable asset to keep Maplewood one of the best places to live in America... It will take time and patience before it takes off, but when it does I believe it will add to the value of all our properties through out our two towns. If anyone knows of anyone interested in become a B&B, please contact me. I plan to start a class again at Columbia's night school program for the next semester.
