Hi there. We are moving there very shortly and I am curious as to how the parking situation at the train is? Do we need permits and if so are there waiting lists as long as in SO? What about bikes? Can we park those at the station? Thanks!

I assume you are referring to Maplewood Train Station. Unless you plan to use the NJT fee for parking lot ($3 a day), you will need a parking permit if you want to park very close to the train station. (That parking is first come, first served.) If you don't mind walking for five to ten minutes, there are usually non-permit spots available further from the train station. There are bike racks and bike lockers at the Maplewood Train Station. I would check with NJT regarding availability and fees.

if you want a parking permit, you get it at the town hall. it's $165 per vehicle for the year but at this point i think it would be half price or something like that. fyi, most days the parking AT the train station is pretty much filled up by 7am so if you are planning on taking a train into the city later than the 7:01 you can park on baker st (also assuming you are living east of the train tracks).

The bike racks are first come first serve. The bike lockers belong to MW and inquiries about them should be made at the Clerk's Office at Town Hall.

Street parking for several blocks around the station is by permit only. A friend shows up around 7:30am and parks on Baker, a two or three minute walk tops to the station. On occasion when I was late I was able to find parking on Wintrop to the west of the station, about a five minute walk. The $165 fee includes a jitney pass I believe and that is a good alternative, but jitney service ends around 7:00pm.

I know there is a combined jitney/parking package. It is what we bought when we lived in Maplewood. I don't remember the pricing however.
