What is the process and who do you contact to try and get a ramp installed somewhere? The Dunnell side of the train station has only stair access to cross under to the town side of the train. If you have a stroller, or toddler and stroller etc, you have to go all the way to Baker and around to get to town. (unless you want to navigate the stairs with the stroller) There is a pedestrian cut through into the parking lot behind Samurai Sushi (don't know which lot number it is). If there were a ramp to access that path - it would be helpful. |

You would have to contact NJT since it is their property but I don't know if they would be obligated to comply with your request since Maplewood train station has not been designated as handicapped accessible. The closest train station with handicapped access is the main train station in South Orange. You can always take Baker Street under the tracks and avoid the whole problem. |

Does someone with a stroller qualify under ADA? I kind of doubt it. I use the underpass everyday and I have seen countless people "walk" strollers down the steps. |

Strollers don't qualify, but as a former stroller pusher, I can say that I was always a truly appreciative user of ADA ramps, etc. However, in a case where ADA applies, I don't think that NJT or whomever would mind if a stroller user pointed out the lack. However, as Joan notes, Maplewood Station is not designated for handicapped access, so I doubt it would do any good. (Ignoring ramps vs stairs, there is also the major question of getting into the trains themselves, since we don't have a platform at the correct height for that.) |
