Jerry,

Can't find a better topic area to post this question -- what is the web address for the new Township website. I called town hall and first was told -- maplewoodonline, explained that I didn't think that was correct then was told www.townshipofmaplewood.nj.us which didn't work. Is it not yet up?

When it is up - if it isn't already - will minutes be posted?

Hey, when did this go up? Looks a whole lot better. This page at the site's hosting service lists some of the capabilities for the site (e.g. "Post meeting agendas and minutes instantly"), or so it appears to me. I wonder which we plan to use.

Great meeting again tonight guys.... and congratulations on putting up www.twp.maplewood.nj.us

Vic, what will now become of the "Agenda" on MOL and our on-line communication with all of you?

BTW, I certainly would invite more residents to show up and provide their input. If you can't come to town hall, turn on Channel 35, or tape it. You’re paying for it anyway, and it's the best show in town.

OK, I missed the Live airing of this Town meeting due to scheduling problems on my part.

So last night I'm tuned in for the re-play on Ch. 35.

With popcorn in hand I'm watching the meeting. Just as we are about to get to the vote on the Police Commissioner thing, just as Ean was making what I understood to be his last comments, BINGO, the program is cut off and the slide show starts.

Time of event 10:01 PM, sync'ed with the US Naval Observatory atomic clock.

WHAT GIVES WITH THE STINKING CABLE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does a citizen propose an ordinance to the TC for consideration? Is it possible?

Perhaps an ordinance is the wrong word, how about an item for the agenda for discussion?

Do I outline it and submit it? Do I just show up and at public speak time start talking about it?

George: You just ask. You can send me (or any member of the TC) an email, or a privateline here, or a letter. If there's a specific proposal that you have you can contact the TC and we can perhaps make time for a presentation on the agenda if that makes sense. You can just show up at a meeting and bring up the issue at one of the times for public comment.

You can suggest ordinances, or resolutions, or policy changes, or items that you think we should take up. Anything.

If you have something in writing or some supporting material to explain what you are looking for, that can be helpful, but it is not required.

What do you have in mind?

Yes, I'd like to see a legal requirement that the broadcast of the Town Meeting, and the re-broadcast the week following, be full and complete from start to finish and have an acceptable sound quality. I'm of the mind that the broadcast is not a gester but a public communicaton requirement.

The deliver of such can be a requirement of the local cable company as part of the license to hold the monopoly on the cable business in our town. A failure of equipment would require a well announced replay date.

I'd like to see a change that requires that anything falling into the following statement:

(Statement by Chair that the Ordinance has been published,
copies posted on the bulletin board in the Municipal Building
and copies made available to the general public in accordance
with the law)

be published on-line at both the town site and MOL, as a matter of a revised law. That is in addition to the existing methods.

I would like to see the ordinance that defines the format of the published Township Committee Meeting agenda be changed to require the addition of a thumbnail summary, in English, that would represent to the reader the context of a referenced ordinance.

Examples of recent agenda items that would benefit; with fictitious thumbnail summaries given in bold as examples :

7. GR/FP ORDINANCE ON FINAL PASSAGE
(Read by Title)(Ord. No. 2203-03)

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 187
OF THE CODE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF
MAPLEWOOD ENTITLED “OUTDOOR CAFES”

This suggested change is to require the use of uniform outdoor umbrella and upholstery colors to match a color adopted by the Township.

8. GR/DH ORDINANCE ON FINAL PASSAGE
(Read by Title)(Ord. No. 2204-03)

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 6 OF
THE CODE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MAPLEWOOD ENTITLED “ADMINISTRATION OF GOVERNMENT”

This suggested change in intended to resolve wording issues in the existing ordinance relating to the assignment of Commissioner of Police duties to the Township Administrator.

9. GR/FP ORDINANCE ON FINAL PASSAGE
(Read by Title)(Ord. No. 2205-03)

AN ORDINANCE TO ADOPT DESIGN
CRITERIA FOR THE SPRINGFIELD AVENUE
SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT

This design document covers signage, public seating, trash receptacles and curb bump-outs for the avenue improvements.

10. FP/GR INTRODUCTION OF NEW ORDINANCE
(Read by Title)(Ord. No. 2206-03)

FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONAL
TESTING PROCEDURE

This document makes significant changes to support the goal of updating force knowledge in newly advanced techniques in controlling fires involving propane as a source of fuel.

Jerry,

Did I misunderstand your post?

None of my suggestions came up at the last meeting.

This meeting is the one formerly listed as being on the 18th, right? And where is the cockamamie "anti-war" petition in the agenda? Did I overlook it? Thx .

George: I have all of your suggestions, and a few others that I got via privateline. I didn't bring them up at the meeting because I decided to take them as an action item for the communications committee to propose to the committee of the whole at a future meeting. I also didn't mention it at the last meeting because we were trying to get back to our budget discussions. Apologies if you thought I was ignoring you; I wasn't, I just meant to handle the suggestions at a later meeting.

Steven: Formerly?

At the meeting on Feb 4, during one of the open times for public comment, a group of people asked the Township Committee to give them time to address us at the Feb 18 meeting, and to try and convince us to pass a resolution about the war. Their request for some time on Feb 18 was granted, so I suspect that there will be an item on the next meeting's agenda.
