I am trying to assemble a list of frequently asked questions, and their answers, for the town website, and for occasional posting here on MOL. These are questions about the town, government, services, etc. I would like to enlist MOL's help in generating those questions. You can post them here, or you can Privateline them to me, whichever you prefer. Thanks in advance! Jerry Ryan |

Besides the TC, what are all of the elected or appointed sub-commitees in town, who is on them, and what do they do; i.e. CBAC, Library Board, Zoning Board, etc.? (a list) How to get involved if possible and if desired? |

It would be nice to be able to easily find general information on rules pertaining to home renovation and fence construction. Could there be general information about services provided by Waste Management (since they do not always return calls)? Also, what should we know about recycling (something I haven't quite figured out in almost a year)? Thanks for asking. |

Keying off the Dbrown statement, how about the last 25 questions called into the building department? Setback rules, basic code requirements for plumbing insulation and electrical. A summary of what requires a permit and what work on your home does not require a permit. |

One of the topics I wanted to discuss in my question about adding agenda topics falls here as well. I'd like to see a change that requires that anything falling into the following statement: (Statement by Chair that the Ordinance has been published, copies posted on the bulletin board in the Municipal Building and copies made available to the general public in accordance with the law) be published on-line at both the town site and MOL, as a matter of a revised law. That is in addition to the existing methods.

Where are each of the township government offices located (tax collection, public works, parks/recreation, police, fire, library, etc.)? When are each of these offices open (days, hours)? What is the contact person/phone number for each office during business hours? How can each of these offices be reached after hours in case of emergency? What are the voice mail and/or e-mail messaging services available? How can a message be left? What are the general responsibilities of each office? What municipal services can be be accessed through the Concierge and what is the procedure for doing so? What volunteer opportunities are available with each office? (police auxiliary, information desk volunteer at the library, recreation league coach, etc.) and what requirements and/or time commitments does each require? How can someone become a member of a township committee, such as the CBAC? What township publications are available: Township Plan? Budget? Zoning regulations? Public health handouts, etc.? Where can they be obtained? How much do they cost (if anything)? How does a new resident arrange for basic services not covered directly by the municipality such as garbage collection, cable t.v. service, etc? I would also suggest that you make use of the town website to gather information for a town residents skill bank which could be referred to as needed. |

Create an open question posting area, in a thread format, 180 day history. Require that one member of the TC be assigned to monitor the questions each month on a rotating basis. Require that an answer to all questions be open posted in a thread format within 72 hours even if that answer is ‘No Comment’. Legitimate questions requiring outside research can be answered with the date that the answer will be posted. Create a similar area for BOE questions and require that a member of the BOE be assigned the same monthly duties with the same requirements.

Jerry: If you are looking for ideas and/or inspiration, check out the grand daddy of all municipal websites: http://www.nyc.gov No way am I suggesting that Maplewood needs all this stuff but anything you could possibly want to know about a municipality and a lot of stuff you never want to know is there. Since this is the space allocated to be the “Official Maplewood” area, would it be possible for the jokesters to leave it sacred? Can the Board moderators remove it just as if it were graffiti on a wall in the park? This is the place to conduct serious business with the Township, not another place to post the humor.

If you see that as humor, well I guess I did. Art has been very productive with new ideas. I was wondering where he was what some of his ideas were. So am I the reason all the jokesters jumped into this? If so, remove my post as well. |

How about a "clearinghouse" for emergency information. This could include links to information for water problems, school closures, public transport (air/bus/rail/ferry) and road problems, weather emergencies etc. We found it hard to get info, for example, when the water system was on "contamination alert" last year. Re: the item mentioned on above re community groups, I'll be happy to provide the "A" on the Newcomers Club. Good luck in a worthwhile venture! Phil
