I had to walk to a meeting again last night. I was amazed to find that thick ice (once was snow) was still on the sidewalks in front of that large house on Durand and Woodland, just across from the Burgdoff center. Yes someone tried to scrape a shovel wide path, but stopped as you approached the corner. 14 days since the snow. I saw the town law posted, and it said that after a while and a few tickets, the town had to remove the material and bill the homeowner. Mr. Mayor or Mr. Ryan, were tickets issued, and where is the town? If one were to slip and fall, isn’t the town now party to the lawsuit for not acting per the law?

Interesting, the news yesterday had something on how NYC pays out millions every year for the very same reason. Lawsuits! Someone better look into it! |

I saw the same type of icing condition on the sidewalk along Oakview Avenue between Prospect Street and Valley Street this morning when I was walking to the train station. When people don't shovel the full width of the sidewalk, melting snow runs downhill along the sidewalk and refreezes into ice when the the temperature goes below freezing. Hopefully, tomorrow's high temerature and promised rain will wash away most of the problem. |
