The town decided to plant these beautiful trees in front of every lot in Maplewood. The problem? Mine is now so big, decaying, infested with carpenter ants AND tearing up my sidewalk. The town's solution? For me to fork over $2000.00 to get it fixed. They will come and take the roots of the tree out, and then I pay for the sidewalk to get replaced, $2000.00. What gets me even more is that the roots will eventually grow back, tear up the sidewalk, and it all will happen again. It is funny how if this were my neighbor's tree, by law they would be responsible, but if it is the town's tree, it is my responsibility. I think we pay enough in taxes for the town to take some action. I would not mind replacing the sidewalk if the town would take away the tree, but they won't unless it is dead. Any suggestions? |

"they won't unless it is dead. Any suggestions?" Yea, I can give you a few. You can go before the TC and complain, or wait until your neighbor complains to the them about it, that usually gets their attention. If not, wait until the tree dies and let the town take care of it as they should anyway! |
