To the Township Committee,

As I'm sure you all understand, being the international statesmen that you are, our President tonight effectively put saddam hussein on notice that he has 48 hours to get out of town.

I'm not sure that any of you believe that good old Saddam is actually going to scram, but I'm in agreement with you that we should give him another couple of days to continue the sadistic brutality that he enjoys dishing out to his people.

In the meantime, tomorrow night you have an opportunity to reverse the ridiculous resolution you passed on 2/18. You have an opportunity to admit that the discretion of the United Nations should never have been placed above our President in terms of priorities, national agendas, etc. I hope that the last two weeks have taught you that the UN is a joke. It is a place where countries like France may act in a manner that is both illogical and dangerous to our national interest. This is evidenced by two outrageous acts: their rejection of the British proposal before Iraq did and just today calling for an emergency session of the Security Council tomorrow in response to the President’s news conference in the Azores. Their unmitigated gall in calling this meeting for the day after the President's Moment of Truth served only to rub salt in the wound and to accelerate the path to war.

It is time for you to acknowledge that the flag of the United States is the only flag that matters in the end. It is the flag of the country that you pledge your allegiance to.

Tomorrow night you have your last opportunity to make a statement on this issue. If you fail to rescind the resolution of 2/18 or if you fail to craft a new one that condemns the country of France for being obstructionist, then you all will surely face the consequences beginning in three months when the soul of the local Democratic Party is tested.

Being the nice industrialist that I am, I'm going to give you a head start:

Be It Resolved that the Township Committee of the Township of Maplewood, New Jersey:

1. Recognizes the long and proud history of current and former residents of Maplewood in defending our nation during times of war and crisis;

2. Honors the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women now serving in the United States armed forces;

3. Recognizes that the defense of the United States of America is of paramount importance and always supercedes the authority of the United Nations

4. Supported the full and effective disarmament of Iraq in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions;

5. Urges the President of the United States to prosecute war against Iraq without further approval of the United Nations as that organization has failed to fulfill its own commitments as authorized by resolution 1441 which explicitly called for immediate Iraqi disarmament or face the threat of force.

6. Condemns the nation of France for being obstructionist by, among other things, deliberately threatening a veto of resolutions that may have resolved the crisis even before the targeted country (Iraq) had the opportunity to review them.

7. Agrees to forward this resolution to President George W. Bush, Senators Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg, Representative Donald Payne, President Jacques Chirac of the Republic of France and His Excellency, President Saddam Hussein of Iraq.

CC: Paul Surovell

The choice is yours.

Very well done, Sbenois.

I would encourage you to submit this to the TC, except that I don't believe they should be passing political resolutions in the first place......

If the industrialist thing doesn't pan out, you may have a bright future in Townpolitik.

Thanks for the effort!

Please pardon our appearance while we renovate.

Our school budget is out of control. Is Dave Huemer out of his mind or out of control? He is acting much like France. Last night his mind was made up before hearing any information. He might as well have said, no need to show me a budget, I'll pass what ever you give me and will give you what ever you want.

Does he really think he is doing the bidding of the voters of Maplewood or anything for the good?

How soon can we throw this bum out? How can we get him off the BOSE?

Huemer did the same thing with the anti-war resolution. He basically said it didn't matter what the citizens thought, let's pass it.

Good question, how are seats on the BOSE assigned?
