Even though the Republicans are not contesting one another in the primary, this section is to give equal time for them to share their views. It will be open to the candidates to use as they like on May 27.

Voters of Maplewood:

Joel Ziegler and I are proud to represent the Republican Party in Maplewood, in both the June 3rd primary election and the November 4th general election. We thank Maplewood Online for providing this forum to us. We hope that many voters will read and react to both the Republican and Democrat sections.

We urge all Maplewoodians to vote. Democrats have to decide between the incumbents Vic and Jerry, and the challengers Kathy and Ken. Unaffiliated voters can vote Democrat or Republican on Tuesday, June 3rd. We urge all Republicans and all Unaffiliated voters to vote for Ed May and Joel Ziegler on June 3rd.

The May – Ziegler Vision for Maplewood focuses on the individual ~ allowing all citizens to achieve their maximum potential. This means: limited government, fewer regulations, and lower taxes.

We will run the town like a business: Our customers are the taxpayers, and we aim to maximize their satisfaction. Our Vision is more than the mandated “Master Plan.” We will work with the citizens to define the “Mission of Maplewood,” create objectives, and measure same.

Responsibility and accountability are what we preach. You have a responsibility to vote; we have the responsibility to serve you. Together we will bring a total quality management approach to our local government.

Our priority is on police, fire, and emergency services. Next are township facilities, parks, and recreational areas. We will work together with existing programs and new initiatives to improve the areas of primary use. We will reduce the economic burden on taxpayers by: Adding ratables to the commercial and industrial sectors, eliminating unnecessary regulation on businesses, encouraging stay-at-home and small businesses, monitoring and controlling all expenses, cutting waste, eliminating unsupported funding, supporting the elimination of wasteful county spending, controlling and reducing the size of the school budget (while improving the education of our students), and not funding programs that are peripheral or ineffective. We will focus on Maplewood issues, as opposed to “foreign policy”.

Our website, www.maplewoodrepublicans.com, will outline our platform in detail over the next several months.

Our campaign for the general election kicks off on June 12th. We plan to walk every street, knock on every door, and talk to every voter that will listen to us. We might be outspent by our Democratic opponents, but we will not be out campaigned.

Our campaign will always endeavor to take the high road. We do not intend to participate in the name calling and mudslinging that often accompanies political campaigns. We will focus on issues affecting Maplewood.

Fiscally conservative Republican governance in years past helped Maplewood get where it is today. Maplewood did not make "Money Magazine" overnight. A lot of good republicans helped get us there. It is time to return balance to the township committee by electing two true republicans to keep the ruling democrats in check.

Right now the Democratic Party in Maplewood is engaged in a close battle to see who will take on Joel and myself in the next round. After June 3 we will put up the good fight, and let the voters decide in November.

Republicans, Unaffiliateds, and Disenfranchised Democrats are welcome to join Joel and myself as we proceed towards victory in November.

Thanks to everyone that voted yesterday. The electorate has spoken. Joel and I look forward to our five month campaign against Kathy and Ken. That is plenty of time to explain to the voters why, following the tenure of Vic and Jerry, the town needs a couple of Republicans on the Township Committee. Our Official Kickoff for the fall campaign is Thursday evening, June 12, at 304 Elmwood Avenue, Maplewood. Republicans, unaffiliated voters, and disenfranchised Democrats are welcome to "come on down" and support the May-Ziegler Vision For Maplewood campaign.

I too thank the electorate for an overwelming primary victory. You are invited to join the "tax buster" team and become part of history. No one will tell us how to vote or what to do except YOU. We are beholden to no one except the people of this town.

Ed and I just wanted to thank everyone from around town that came to the kickoff event and offered their support for our campaign and invited us to walk with them in their neighborhoods starting right after June 21st. I think I better get a good pair of walking shoes! We have an uphill battle but will probably start at the top of the mountain and walk down, hopefully creating momentum as we go.
