In the past 10 years, the Memorial Day Parade has typically been a larger, traditional type parade, while the 4th of July parade has resembled a bike tour of children in Maplewood (which is cute and my son plans to participate this year). My proposal is this.. since the Memorial Day Parade was cancelled due to weather, is there any way to add some of this years proposed participants in the Memorial Day Parade to the 4th of July Parade and just have the tour of bikes at the end of the parade? My guess is that it is too late to coordinate, but I thought I would throw the idea out there. |

I sent you a private line listing people you might contact to make this happen. Post here to let me know you received it. A few concerns regarding your idea: 1. The two parades have very different focuses. The Memorial Day Parade is held in memory of our departed soldiers who gave their lives for our country. The 4th of July Parade is held to get the children to the athletic field for their races. I am not sure that the two are compatable and it would be a shame to take away the focus on the young kids which the 4th of July Parade provides. 2. Many of the groups which participate in the Memorial Day parade close down for the summer and would have difficulty getting a marching contingent together even if the 4th of July Committee were to approve the idea and be otherwise able to pull it off in time. |

Joan, I received your message. Thanks for the quick response. Your points are well taken and I understand the different focus. I will enjoy the children's parade on the 4th and wait for the Memorial Day parade next year. Mike |
