Is there a timetable for street cleaning in Maplewood? The streets between Ridgewood and Wyoming are filthy, especially after the rains this weekend. How often do the streets get cleaned here, anyway?

AZ

I can't answer your question. Used to be that Vic and Jerry would answer questions like that on MOL, and maybe they still do. There is a Township Committee Meeting Tuesday July 1 at 8 PM and you could ask the TC that question at the meeting.

Yeah, pretty bizzare. I used to post questions here and they would get answered rather quickly. I will try to make the TC meeting, unless SOMEONE ELSE from the TC can answer the question for me.

I think it is easier to shout in the wind than pick up the phone.

Well, no. Througout the day my concentration is primarily on work. And then I get to come home and remember how dirty you street is. In the past I have posted questions here and representatives of the town council would not only tell me who to call but also take action. Clearly, that doesn't work anymore and I actually have to use the old device called a telephone. Although I must say that I did try to call the rec dept to inquire about pool passes and after the 250th ring someone did answer and was quite helpful.

If you want to talk filthy, try driving through most every street in Irvington. (Really, you have to see it to believe it!)

I can't even imagine what government is thinking down there. As a result of that pig pen town, I've also noticed a marked increase in street garbage on boardering Maplewood streets in the past year or so...

Every morning when I go out to pick up the morning paper, it seems I have to pick up more and more garbage out of the street and off my lawn. Most towns have an ordinance that holds the property owner responsible for cleaning the front of their property and 6in. out into the street.

BTW, I would suggest besides picking up the phone to complain, also try picking up the garbage.

Every little bit helps!

Art,

It's not garbage. It's leaves and lawn debris. Though I do get the occasional ice cream wrapper but I pick those up. It's really old leaves and grass stuck on the side streets and along the edge of the curb.

AZ,

I'm also interested in knowing more, so I left Mike Bishop a voice mail message at the DPW and requested a street cleaning schedule be faxed to me, or that he leave me a voice mail message explaining the street cleaning policy. I'll share that information with you as soon as I receive it... Art

Adam:

You went to the Town Recycling Center. Maplewood does not have a dump.

Joan,

Where is the Maplewood dump located? It is good to know that the town does have a dump.

The recycling center is located on Boyden Avenue near Newark Way. "Dump" isn't the correct word. They only accept recyclable materials.

Back in the "old days" when Joan and I first moved here they used to have large dumpster where residents could get rid of junk, but this is, alas, no more.

We all care AZ, and it's what I've always said; a clean street is a happy street...
