We just moved to Maplewood 3 days ago and while trying to set up our garbage service, they informed us that the previous occupants had not cancelled their garbage service. Hence, we are unable to set up our own. The people we bought the house from moved to Scotland and we have no forwarding information.
1) What can we do here?
2) In the interim we need to know the garbage pickup days and the recycling rules (bulk pickup etc...) ... .any help here would be GREATLY appreciated !!!!

Thank you

Your realtor should be able to get in touch with the seller's realtor and/or lawyer, who should have some kind of contact information for them. Aside from that, not sure what else you could do other than calling Waste Management and pretend to be the previous owners calling to cancel...

Give Waste Management a call and tell them what street you're on. They'll let you know when both garbage and recycling days are for your street.

FYI - If you want garden debris pickup, Waste Management handles that too. There is "Spring Rake Out" pickup that the town does, but it's just for a few weeks in April/May, and then after that, you have to pay for it (from May - October) through Waste Management.

Bulk Pickup has been reduced to one day in the Spring. You can find more info on that at the town's website. http://www.twp.maplewood.nj.us/

Good Luck!

If the previous owner didn't cancel the pick up then Waste Management should still pick it up. You can call the DPW and they will tell you when the recycling is picked up in your area.

All is well with the garbage pickup now. Was able to "sign on" and they will start this week. What I find incredulous is the degree of recycling that the town requires.... WOW !!! I guess we will get used to it.
