I have to tell you, after reading South Orange Specific from time to time, I really miss the input from Vic and Jerry on Official Maplewood. Does anyone else agree?

Way back before September 2001, these men lead the way for my developing interest in MOL, and also for my eventual run for township committee last year. As you can see, I haven’t been able to rid myself yet of my political interests in what goes on here in town. Please believe me, I’m trying…

Having now surpassed both Vic and Jerry with the number of my postings, I know the amount of time and effort it takes to reply to the vast number of varied comments posted regularly each day. I’ve learned that you really have to be selective and chose your battles carefully. Nonetheless, when running for, or serving on the township committee, I still believe strongly that open communications with town residents is paramount to having good government, and a healthy community.

I can’t say I know very much about Mrosner, but obviously being recently re-elected for another term, he must be doing something right. As for the involvement of town officials on line, I must admit I’m fascinated how he has not only been able to respond to so many matters of concern from local residents, but to actually produce favorable results. A perfect example is his involvement in resolving the traffic problem at the NJT parking lot in back of the train station. Although I have yet to meet or speak with him in person, I hope to attend a Township Trustee meeting someday to shake his hand, and congratulate him for his continuing efforts to help solve the problems within his community.

Meanwhile, I feel the current members of the Maplewood Township Committee are missing an excellent opportunity to not only improve their image within the town, but to help resolve some of the small issues that will continue to make living in Maplewood as enjoyable as it is for most of us.

On the other hand, seeing that Vic and Jerry’s terms will be expiring in January, I'm guessing they might have something to say about the direction they feel the town should be heading, and also share with us their legacy they would like to leave behind.

Unless they plan on moving out of town, I’ll bet they would be more than welcomed here by everyone to share their vast amount of experience and information with us.

BTW, has anyone heard anything about these guys opening an ice cream company called “Vic & Jerry’s”?

I miss the postings of Jerry and Vic also. Wish that the other TC members David and Fred and Ian would post more often also. Even wish that Democrat TC candidates Kathy and Ken would get into posting. Joel Ziegler and I, Republican Candidates for TC, seem to be the only Township Committee candidates that post, and frankly Joel does not post that much.

Ed, I'm beginning to think that either no one checks this site anymore since they stopped posting in it, or that no one cares what the TC has to say?

Unless the entire TC, and both Democrat candidates, have been banned from Maplewood Online, I am betting that the 7 Dems are saving their energy for the upcoming fall campaign. Will Vic and Jerry support Kathy and Ken? Will Vic and Jerry supporters vote Republican? Will David Huemer play ball with Ed May? What happened to the Kathy and Ken Campaign HQ that never opened up on Maplewood Avenue? Will St. James Gate Pub open in time for the Republican Victory celebration on November 4th? Do the voters remember that they must vote in November?

Seriously,

Joel and I look forward to engaging Kathy and Ken in vigorous issue-oriented debate early and often.

What will Kathy and Ken do to allow all citizens to achieve their maximum potential. What will K & K do to assure limited government, fewer regulations, and lower taxes. What will they do to run the town like a business? Do they realize that the taxpayers are customers? What will they do to maximize their satisfaction? What is their vision? Our Vision is more than the mandated "Master Plan." We will work with the citizens to define the "Mission of Maplewood," create objectives, and measure same.

Responsibility and accountability are what we preach. Citizens have a responsibility to vote; we have the responsibility to serve you. Together Joel and I will bring a total quality management approach to our local government.

What have K & K done since they were "endorsed" by the police union? Our priority is on police, fire, and emergency services. Next are township facilities, parks, and recreational areas. We will work together with existing programs and new initiatives to improve the areas of primary use. We will reduce the economic burden on taxpayers by: Adding ratables to the commercial and industrial sectors, eliminating unnecessary regulation on businesses, encouraging stay-at-home and small businesses, monitoring and controlling all expenses, cutting waste, eliminating unsupported funding, supporting the elimination of wasteful county spending, controlling and reducing the size of the school budget (while improving the education of our students), and not funding programs that are peripheral or ineffective. What will Ken and Kathy do to LOWER taxes? We will focus on Maplewood issues, as opposed to "foreign policy".

Fiscally conservative Republican governance in years past helped Maplewood get where it is today. Maplewood did not make "Money Magazine" overnight. A lot of good republicans helped get us there. It is time to return balance to the township committee by electing two true republicans to keep the ruling democrats in check.

Republicans, Unaffiliateds, and Disenfranchised Democrats are welcome to join Joel and myself as we proceed towards victory in November.

My guess is that MOL has the same flaw as email. Email promised to bring people closer together, and it has done that to a degree. The backlash is that it is so easy to send email that we have nastygrams, spam, and so much more crap taking up our time.

It could be that the TC council members find that there's plenty to lose and little to gain on MOL, since it's so darned convenient to attack and misinterpret the TC members. These may be the battles that they choose not to fight. I'd be happy to learn that I'm wrong, but this is my fear. I would also like to have the local government answerable and answering us here.

You may be right Tom, but the truth is they do get to pick their own fights...

Hey, Mrosner seems to handle it alright. Vic and Jerry did fine in the past, and then there's always Dave to police the conversations.

I agree, and I believe most of us would like to have the local government answerable and answering us here on-line... The only fear I see here, is fear itself!
