Sorry about the double dip and if this is a stupid question. My wife and I will be first time homeowners so we have some basic questions. Anway, we were thinking of putting in new windows in a place (adding 2 where there's only 1 now). Do we need to get a permit for this? |

Suggest you follow Tom Carlson's second paragraph and contact the construction dept at townhall, in person. Also, most reputable contractors will tell you what you need in the way of permits

Joe: you are restoring my faith in new residents. Summary- get to know construction officials in town hall. Generally they will be extremely helpful and help make you an expert in these matters. In a very short time. This isn't rocket science. Each community has its rules, kinda like Bridge or Chess, and once you learn them, you never have to ask (well, sometimes you do). Beware of elected politicians who want you to think they hold the key to your questions so you will be beholden to them. The good news is that Profetta, Levethal, Grodman and likely even Pettis are a breath of fresh air in this regard. Not so with the 5th un-named Committee man and the former deposed committee men. (Who are trying to do an end around in the Democrat Committee district representative election). Not certain about your statement that you will let your wife know, although I believe that wives should be actively involved on their own merits. I would suggest to you a new member of Maplewood that a number of politically correct citizens and they are numerous on this board, may start referring to you as Joe Bob, (a chauvinistic slur) about "letting your wife know". Good luck in our wonderful maze!

The corner fence regulation is rocket science. |

Why would one turn an innocent thread into something political? What an ass. |

Reflective thanks for the thoughts. Rest assured my statement, "I will let my wife know," is anything but a chauvanistic statement. Really I'm doing the research, and she's the boss. A line from "Empire Falls" comes to mind. I'm paraphasing here: "In all discussions I have the last words. These are, 'Yes dear.'"
Just kidding we're very egalitarian. |

Thanks Joe and ajc for putting a smile back on my face. Joe - you really should get to know Art in real time, it's Maplewoodians like him that help all of us find shortcuts or solutions to day to day life here. |
