Does anyone have any suggestions how to dispose of leaves this time of year? I have accummulated quite a pile during my spring cleanup; too many just to put in a couple of garbage recepticals for curbside pickup. Besides, according to a notice on my Waste Management bill for garden disposal, they don't pick up leaves.

I can live with the leaf blowers. I know in a short period the lawn guys are going to pack up their toys and move elsewhere. Wind chimes, however, are another matter entirely. The noise is with you 24/7/365 and gets worse the more the wind blows.

I know some find the noise pleasent and soothing. However, many of us don't. To put up windchimes in a close packed community like ours is insensitive.

Noise pollution is noise pollution.

Bobk's post wasn't very responsive. Let's see if this helps:

Leaves are nature's fertilizer. The best thing you can do with your leaves is turn them into compost and return your new enriched top soil to the plant beds where they belong.

If you are unwilling or unable to do your own composting, assuming that you live in Maplewood, you can check with Public Works to find out when they will accept leaves for composting. You will have to put the leaves in reusable containers (such as garbage cans), truck them to the recycling center and pour them in yourself.

Another possibility is to bag the leaves, store them and wait until leaf pick-up season starts in the fall. Then you can empty the bags into the street for town pick-up.

Finally, you could have just left them in the beds where they would have broken down naturally, enriching the soil.

"Spring Rake Out" details - see http://www.twp.maplewood.nj.us and select Township Services, Public Works, Spring Rake Out

Yeah Hoan, you are correct since I posted it in the wrong thread.

Tow other alternatives. Pile up your leaves and run the lawn mower through them. This will reduce the bulk by more than 2/3rds and then they should fit in containers. The last resort is to call a yard service to do a spring cleanout.

Thanks all. Evidently the Township does pick up leaves (which according to their website must be placed in re-usable containers) for its Spring Rake Out, even though Waste Management does not cart away leaves.

Strand,
If you don't have enough reusable containers, you can put leaves in those big brown yard bags, available at all home/garden centers.
