Hello all,

I'm just checking in. Does anyone know the status of the roller hockey rink portion of the skate park by the pool? I know there's quite a few adult hockey players out there that are chomping at the bit for a place to play.

I haven't heard anything lately, or seen flyers around South Orange or Maplewood. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

sb

Were working on it. On Saturday April 17th at 8 PM at the Elks Club (Prospect St. South Orange across from , Our Lady of Sorrows) there will be a benefit for the Skatepark/Roller Hockey Rink called Guitar Town. This will be a bunch of members of your favorite Maplewood/South Orange bands, playing acoustic sets, live and up close. Advance tickets for Guitar Town can be purchased at Robin Hutchins Gallery in Maplewood and Mailboxes Etc in South Orange. Advance tickets are $10, at the door will be $12 (kids admitted free). Should be a fun night. The more money we raise, the sooner we can get our roller hockey rink. C'mon down, it will be fun and it's for a great cause.

Hmmm... night of the 17th, I'm out of town (on Spring Break). Where are donations accepted otherwise?

Hi Steve,

Sorry no one has gotten back to you. If you will call Jerry Starr at 973-763-2789, he will accept your donation (check payable to Friends of Maplewood Recreation; it istax deductible under IRC 501c3. Also, on July 4 the skate park committee will be setting up an area in the late morning on the basketball courts at Memorial Park and there will be a table there where you can get information and make contributions if you wish.

We are hoping to have the money for Phase II, the hockey rink, by the fall, but we have to raise somewhere around $5,000 more, I think. We are hoping to have some more fundraisers soon. Thanks for your interest, and see you out there!
