What special skills do you bring to the position of Township Committee member? How would you use these skills to the betterment of the township? |

SCOTT KISCH: My academic and professional experiences have prepared me well for a career in public service at the municipal level. I have the practical experience of managing large organizations people, equipment, training, and procurement in sometimes difficult situations. These are experiences that serve as a model for many public and corporate scenarios. My military career was a blend of basic civil engineering work (Desert Storm, built an airbase under fire over the course of a month) combined later with civil affairs and community relations. I served on panels that studied the downsizing/restructuring efforts that began in the early 90s. I served on panels that studied base closures and the reuse opportunities they presented to the surrounding civilian communities. This work often entailed environmental remediation considerations and the laws that applied i.e. Superfund. In the public policy forum, I profess to know my way around Trenton and Washington better than any other candidate currently in the field, and I have an established network of contacts with legislators and their staffs in both capitols. I will view my role on the Township Committee as that of a full-time lobbyist for the community. In me, Maplewood will have an inside edge when it comes to securing outside aid, grant monies and other programmatic benefits. For individual constituents with specific problems, I have the knowledge, contacts and most importantly the concern and willingness to refer their cases to the appropriate outside agencies i.e. veterans affairs, INS, human services, and follow-up when necessary. But, its my experience at-home that grants me the ability to be an effective member of the TC and a positive influence in the community. As a result of a lifetime of living here living in 4 different homes in different neighborhoods over 35 years, going through the public school system K-12, and having three-generation family involvement in the community I am thoroughly familiar with the structure of the town, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood and the general concerns that exist in each. I have corporate knowledge and perspective that my primary opponent cant match. Example: If any of the township department heads come before the TC and tries to blow smoke in our ears, or business owner, individual resident etc. al., I will have the ability and the credibility to challenge the discussion within reason, especially if they offer historical examples. |

DAVID HUEMER: Since Laura and I moved to Maplewood in 1988, our life here and the lives of our children have been fuller and happier than we ever expected or hoped. I love Maplewood, and am running for Township Committee because I want to do as much as I can for our community. I offer a unique set of abilities that compliment those of the current members of the Committee. I have successfully run my own business in an intensely competitive industry (trading) for thirteen years. The skills I use every day--rapid cost/benefit analysis, weighing competing options, and decision making--are central to successful service on the Township Committee. Through my Citizens Budget Advisory Committee service I have extensive experience in analyzing budgets and my active involvement in our children's education gives me a deep and broad knowledge of the strengths and challenges of our schools. Because of the contacts and friendships I've developed through my extensive community service, I can draw on the talents and energy of many residents - as I have done in the past - to arrive at creative solutions and achieve positive results in our town. |
