In today's paper: quote:Maplewood succeeds in evicting porn shop Thursday, August 26, 2004 Maplewood Mayor Fred Profeta announced yesterday that a porn shop, which has been the target of criticism in town, has been evicted from its building. The store on Springfield Avenue is adjacent to a property that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints is in the process of building on. "It's a problem in that it has not been an incentive for making that a pedestrian-friendly area," said Profeta. "There have been a whole lot of people who hate it." The township asked the owners of the building to evict the porn shop in exchange for approvals for renovations on the property.

What does Montclair's branding have to do with the story? The piece concludes....
quote:Montclair has received about 20 proposals from consultants seeking the job of rolling out a town "branding" strategy complete with logo, slogan and marketing campaign. "They had to be wheeled down to my office on a cart," Township Manager Joseph Hartnett said of proposals that arrived by Monday's deadline. The proposals, he said at Tuesday night's council meeting, range from less than $20,000 to more than $250,000. "We're moving forward, full speed ahead," he said of his initiative to open the lines of communication between Montclair and its citizens. Hartnett said he received about 50 suggestions for slogans in the past few days alone. That search is part of a wider communications initiative that includes better use of the town's local cable TV station and a revamping of the town Web site. To that end, the town also is seeking a full-time Webmaster, which has generated more than 90 applications, he said. Montclair also is seeking a communications consultant, a post that has generated 61 proposals ranging from $9 an hour to $200 an hour, he said.
Maybe Maplewood's slogan can be: "More Saints Than Sinners"?

I think the Montclair part was there because of poor formatting on the web page. In any event, Dave's slogan could be tied in with Midtown Direct. "This train, carries saints and sinners ..." |

Didn't one of our previous Mayor's at one time make a campaign promise to get rid of that store? Congratulations to Mayor Profeta and the rest of the TC for a job well done, and a promise long over due, finally made good...

I think Fred's a republican who disguised himself as a democrat just to get on the committee. I like him already. Maybe we have our own Rudy Guiliani in Maplewood. Just what this town needs!!! Keep it up fred!!! Lead the way to change!! |

I think they should condemn the church grounds along with that which the porn shop sets on and put the police station there. |
