Ultimate was born in the spring of 1967 when a Columbia student named Joel Silver decided he was bored of traditional sports.Silver sat down and sketched out a new game-an amalgam of football, basketball, and soccer that would be played with a Wham-O Frisbee. He called it Ultimate Frisbee.

1. First game----Columbia 43-10 over Millburn 1970
2. First collegiate game Rutgers 29-27 over Princeton in 1972
3. Ultinmate is played in 40 countries
4. 100,000 players
5. The 2003 College National championships were filmed and broadcast in a series of 30- minute segments by College Sports Television (CSTV)

Locate the Ultimate Frisbee Hall of Fame on Springfield Avenue. Build it, they will come.

Joel Silver may help. He is a big producer in Hollywood.

An Ultimate Frisbee Hall of Fame is a good idea but why build it on Springfield Avenue when both landmarks associated with the game are over by Parker Avenue?

The Basketball Hall of Fame is in Springfield, MA.

The Volleyball Hall of Fame is in Springfield, MA.

Seems to make sense to place the UFHOF on Springfield.

Recognition of the home of Ultimate Frisbee is a huge, huge, huge opportunity for whomever picks up the ball disk and runs scores with it (Frederico, ya out there? Dr. Rosen: you can do it! (We all know Calabrese is spending too much time making corny jokes to know what's going on.... don't worry, he won't even read this unless some person who deserves a big raise prints this out for him)).

It's long overdue. Springfield Ave. has absolutely nothing to do with it. The Marker should go on Parker pretty much on the border of Maplewood and South Orange. And if Joel Silver helps out, I won't out him for stealing the story and script for The Matrix from Dark City.

I heard Silver is a closet Kurosawa fan.

As an original CHS Varsity Frisbee Team Member and co-founder of the Rutgers team, I think making Maplewood the HOF home is a clear choice. Further, I think any markers or buildings should be placed as closely as possible to the original field.

CHS Ultimate is over for this season, but will be going strong again in the spring. It's a great game to watch or play. As is traditional, there is no official connection to CHS (it's not a school sport or club), and the kids handle almost everything themselves.

I will try to post "home" games in the spring, so MOLers can come out and see the team in action.

BTW, in the annual alumni game, played as usual on Thanksgiving evening at "the lot" on Parker Ave., the current CHS team won by (I think) 21 to 17. My ultimate player says the alumni almost always win, so this year's team is "hot".

The CHS team had an 18-2 record this fall, including games against college as well as high school teams.

Joan, you're probably right, I was getting *really cold* by the end. I really enjoy seeing the alums, great turnout.

THAT Joel Silver is a Columbia Alum? Wow! He and Andrew Scheineman (Executive Producer of "Seinfeld" and Castle Rock Pictures) are two locals who are biggies in La-La. Is either in the school Hall of Fame?

Yes, THAT Joel Silver.

A CHS teacher told me several years ago that it was unlikely that Joel Silver would ever be in the CHS Hall of Fame because one of the requirements was good behavior while a student. In fact, she said that a number of veteran teachers who had known Mr. Silver as a student had vowed to resign en masse if he were to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
