Cynicalgirl: So sorry to hear that you have a family medical problem to attend to. Of course it is more urgent than whether street lighting can improved at an intersection. Hope things get better soon. Best wishes for a happy and most importantly healthy holiday season. Joan |

Thanks, Joan. I can tell by your posts, here and elsewhere, that you are an immensely kind person and always helpful. I have a post in Please Help, and boy-o-boy, if you have any ideas, I'm all ears! |

Had a spare moment. Given other family emergencies on my plate I cannot follow up with lobbying. What I did do is call Michele Meade and leave a message to see what progress if any had been made. Is calling Profeta a thought here? I am limited right now to phone call activity, or holding out for a hero... |

I talked to all the TC members except for Pettis on Jan 1 at the reception. They all seem to make a point of being very accessible. I think calling Profeta can't hurt. |

Another great idea for street-crossing safety http://ubiks.net/local/blog/jmt/archives3/003065.html |

In Boston, they have some crosswalks with traffic lights. The drivers know that whenever they encounter a red light, it is "only" for pedestrians, so they don't stop. It's worse than it sounds, because the red lights are generated only when a pedestrian hits a button. |

Cynicalgirl: By all means give Fred or any of the other TC members a call. More importantly, how are things going with your family emergency? Did things go well with the meeting with the surgeon? |

CGirl you posted this concern first on 11/3/04. On 11/10, you said Meade would get back to you in two weeks or so. I said that was a foolish answer for her to give you because this is about child safety. Good suggestions were given you starting with speaking with the TC at a meeting, as well as informally with the Mayor, or anyone on the committee. On December 22, you thanked posters and asked us to back off for awhile. My last suggestion is for you to call the Mayor or any committee person by phone. They won't react by merely reading your post. It takes the same time as it did to call a very unresponsive, who, I am beginning to believe, by your accounts only, is an insensitive bureaucrat. I hasten to add that your hesitation in taking a simple , obvious, non unique step of contacting Profeta, Kathy, Ken, Ian or even david, is making me wonder whether or not this is a real issue or a made up topic.

Made up? Talk about cynical, my friend! Her husband just had surgery, and you question whether she's pulling our legs about this. |

TR and CG: apologies from me to CG, and best wishes for her husband's recovery. A little frustration on my part and I am certain on CG's part for the delay. In a couple of months, the days will be long enough that the safety issue will subside until next November. Meanwhile TY, TR, for providing some perspective.

Reflective, et al.: Yeah, it's been a real emergency. Not in the mood to rub faces in stuff, but my husband had a 7 hr surgery on guts this very week. Forunately coming along pretty good but still in ICU. After he gets well-er (not for probably 6 weeks) he'll get chemo of some kind. So, yeah, I've been distracted. I still go to work, and still utilize the afore-mentioned cross walk --or, rather, my daughter does at 6 in the evening. This is not made up. The same irascible, purposeful cynicalgirl who is trying to pursue this safety issue is who spotted that all was not well and got her husband in to get this cancer found. Believe me. I am not lacking in guts, balls etc. Just have to be careful where I spend them. Husband? Daughter? Work? I don't waste my timie, as a rule. Were at least one of these not on my plate, I'd be on the township like stink on ka-ka. I probably have it in me to contact Fred. I do not have it in me to lobby miscellaneous members of the TC. And, this is not partisan. I don't even know the history of political interactions of some of the chuckleheads in this town, and I don't care. For me, they are officeholders, or gov't workers and I'm just lookin' to know what their actual area of responsibility is so that when I need a service, I can access it. Reflective, I don't blame you for being suspicious. There's a lot of cant and nonsense posted variously regarding all manner of things. But the safety issue that I started this with is not one such. |

Just re-read my first post of this morning. Sorry for sounding like such a filthy troll. Irritation with certain drs responses to questions, etc. spilled over.

Cynicalgirl: You have absolutely nothing to apologise for. How you even find the time and especially the strength to post to this topic with all the other things on your plate just now is beyond comprehension. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery. |

Joan, thank you. The online world is a distraction, as well as a source of information. Every day at 6 I get a call from the ICU on status. Then I read stuff on various cancer-related message boards. Then I feed the cat and dog and get out my yellow pad, and figure out the day! I really do care about this lighting issue, and I'm not looking for trouble. Even when the crossing guard is on in the morning, and later from 1/4 to 2, it's a dangerous intersection. She has to get pretty surly with the cars who whizz from up the street, down through the underpass. Very blind curve. Without the crossing guard, and in the dark, it's far worse. And, people race on through, especially from "above" it.

My e-mail to Fred worked. A lovely man, he wrote me a long note and offered 2 phone numbers, one his cell. Phoned him from the hospital and we had a good chat. He's looking into this with dispatch... Thanks to all for patience with me. |

Wanted to let you guys know this, in outline: Both Vic and Fred have been real gents, and following up on behalf. Came home to a message from Ms. Meade, explaining the delay some. Police have noted that even some existing lights are out, and things seem to be on the way to resolution Wanted to thank -- publicly -- you folks for your support, and Fred, Vic and Ms. Meade. |

They took the NG tube out this morning, and some other. Tomorrow a.m., broth etc. They're talking about him coming home Friday -- which would be GREAT! Thanks for asking. I'm a little tired...z-z-z-z-z-z |

Cynicalgirl: It must be such a relief. It's good news that the worry has been reduced to the point that you can let the weariness set in. Get some rest if you can. You will need it for those first days that he is home. |
