To All Maplewood/South Orange Kerry Volunteers Even though every silver lining looks badly tarnished, we can at least take some small satisfaction in the fact that we got our job done. As you know, Maplewood, South Orange and the entire state went solidly democratic, proving we are not a swing state. And as a result of our efforts, places like East Orange had overwhelming voter turnout, and PA held strong for Kerry. We can be proud, as a community, that, starting literally from scratch, we assembled a list of almost 160 volunteers in a matter of weeks. This type of grass roots effort -- neighbors interacting with neighbors -- is really what a democratic country is all about. Despite the cynicism that many of us feel about politicians and the political process, each of us realized that we can and should participate, and that our contribution is not only vital to the success of our electoral system, but can make a difference.
