I asked MOLers if they think there is a problem with parking, and the consensus was that there is not.

Thanks for trying to keep us on topic Tom...

However, your thread only received two days of comments. With such a small response I don't feel you're able to safely draw the conclusion that there's not a parking problem. I’d try doing it again!

True, the sample size was small, and it wasn't a random sample, so statistically, it's bogus.

I invite Monica to look at the thread anyway, because we raised some points that people often don't think of. Once she considers them, she may realize that the parking situation isn't as bad as she claims.

As to your problems on Boyden Avenue, I think those are different from the village and Springfield Avenue. I do hope you get that area redesignated as "parking allowed" because there's no good reason to forbid parking there.

..."there's no good reason to forbid parking there."

Thank you Tom. I would never oppose a No-Standing, No-Parking ban if there were good reason for one…

The fact is we had and still have plenty of effective ordinances in Maplewood to stop people from making noise, loitering, or throwing out their garbage in the street. I always felt that Winchester Gardens did an excellent job of policing their employees…they still do!

IMHO, parking everywhere in town is a serious problem that needs to be revisited on a regular annual basis. I hope Monica and some others are willing to look at the parking issues all around our community.

I for one certainly plan on bringing the "Elmwood Avenue Parking Issue" back to the Township Committee sometime early next year. As an example, this Saturday night I have the Maplewood Glee Club's "Afterglow Party” at my home after our concert. Unfortunately, as with the recent "First Night" fund raiser, and several other recent community based events, our guests need to car pool, park at the pool, or walk for a few blocks to attend.

Street parking never has anything to do with the B&B anymore, but personally it sure makes it difficult to have an active social, or community active get- to-gether at my old historic home that I love to share with folks in town.

Art,

I would come to watch, but I'm sure there won't be any place to park in the village.

Lets see... this Saturday there’s breakfast with Santa, and Dickens Village, the lighting of the Christmas Tree, Christmas Caroling, and it all will be standing in the face of Ricalton Squares first public duel.

Well, it is beginning to look like I’ll be portrayed as the Grinch who stole Christmas. There you go Johnny Boy, when, or should I say if you show up on Saturday, you’ll be able to recognize me.

I’ll be the six-foot, 235 lb., Green Grinch with the Santa’s Hat, standing under the clock in Ricalton Square...

BTW, popcorn and Christmas music... perfect together!

Thank you JMFSO... That was sweet of you. And, it sounds like you're also doing something nice around the toys for tots fundraiser. This Holiday Season has always been my favorite time of the year, especially when in involves doing things for children.

It’s nice to see that the folks in Morristown are supporting a BWS Fundraiser. Three years ago Vic, Jerry, and my neighbors stopped me from doing a BWS to benefit “Strawberry Fields” the Environmental Play and Learning Spaces at Seth Boyden School.

I remember it as if it was yesterday. The dates were December 1. 8. 15, 22, 2001 from 9AM to 11Am. Thanks to the folks at the MCC who gave me a golf cart to use. I put a huge 12-point Elk head on it and a small trailer decorated as a sleigh to give the kids a ride back to Santa’s Workshop, where they would be given a little gift. Some of the older children from Seth Boyden were going to serve as Santa’s Helpers and bring the children back to the main house for pancakes and pictures with Santa. All the signs were printed, the gifts were wrapped, kids from local charities were invited, and at the last possible minute they ordered me to shut it all down.

Well, speaking of "Grinch's", those damn politicians and NIMBY's will screw up a one car funeral if given a chance. And I had always thought being liberal meant they were tolerant, open-minded, and generous. Wrong!

Listen, it doesn't matter to me if Johnny shows up or not, however, “I” need to be there and I will be there! Over the years I have stood up to many personal attacks on this board. It’s upsetting that we have to have these kinds of people like Johnny around who are allowed to continue to spew their hate and personal insults to other posters.

I have spoken to many residents over the years who won’t even read the Soapbox stuff much less post there because of all the personal attacks. I’m to old to fight in Iraq, so I guess showing up in Ricalton Square is my way of being proactive and fighting those who would give “Maplewood”Online a bad reputation. MOL is a strong representation of our community and the character of our residents, at least IMHO….. Johnny and his kind need to know they can’t keep insulting people without being challenged for their bad behavior, and I have never minded being the one to do it!

BTW, Ho Ho Ho, I kind of like this whole “Grinch” idea, so Johnny Boy, if you’re still paying attention… watch out for the “Grinch” who will deal with you while he's returning some of the Holiday Spirit to Ricalton Square! Be there, or be square!

Well TOM everyone I know complaints about Springfield Avenue's parking and how it sucks!! Trust me i've parked 3 blocks away just to get to my destination and don't mind at all, but when officers are not there when you need them it pisses me off!! YOu can always count on an officer to give you a freakin' ticket, but where are they when your vechile is being vandalized?? no where to be found!! thats why parking for me its such a big issue!!! When i did find parking in the public lot my vechile got scratched and dented twice, but no where was an officer to be found, and yet they are always there to give you a ticket if you exceed your limit!!!

I am frequently up on Springfield Avenue and RARELY have a problem finding parking. There are 3 municipal lots and lots of on-street and side street parking all around the Prospect St. area. And I have never had my car vandalized. Hey, you know what - cars get dented and scratched when you drive them around. I'd rather have my car dented in a parking lot supporting businesses in my town then in the parking lot of the malls or at Target or Wal-Mart.

I've never had a problem finding a spot on or around SA. Quite the opposite I can say for the Village though, which nobody seems to complain about. At least you can find a spot in SA instead of endlessly driving around looking for a spot in the Village. I guess some people need something to complain about.

If parking lots magically appeared on Springfield Avenue, how would that alleviate the problem of vandalism and accidental dents and scratches?

Well why on earth didn't you come over to me and Art G. and say hello.

We took pictures to prove I was there at noon and we'll post them next Tuesday when we get them back. Listen Johnny, I don't want to fight you. My only interest in meeting you is to try to find out what the problem is between us and see if we can somehow put it behind us.

Hey, I'll be making pancakes at H2TA about 10:30 this morning. Why not come over and I'll buy you breakfast and we can talk?

Actually, I left Ricalton Square about 12:10PM and then put on my "Grinch" costume and walked through the Village until the real Santa arrived.

The kids in town really loved it, not to mention all the pretty women who I got my picture taken with. It was the most amount of fun I've had in a dogs age... (pun intended)

As for Johnny, I'm sure he will come around again and maybe next time he'll say say hello...

Listen, any man, woman, or child who would come up and give a big old ugly "Grinch" like me a hug and take a picture, has to be pretty special...

Well Tom the point that I was trying to get across is that you can always count on an officer for a ticket, but when it comes to patrolling the lots they are no where to be found. I just wanted to make people aware of the Parking situation, but if i'm the only one that sees this as a problem, then there's nothing that can be done. I've always dealt with this issue, but was getting fed up and decided to post it online.

Oh, feel free to vent. That's what MOL is for. I am just trying to help by clarifying what the problem is. Sounds like the crime and "uneven" enforcements are problems. Yeah, that would tick me off. But I don't see it as a parking problem.

Listen, the fact that you came up with this bird brain idea that implies I'm Johnny is suspect. It's also a comment I could easily take as a personal insult. Maybe you would like to take Johnny's place this Saturday in Ricalton Square?

What say you wise guy, why not show up and see for yourself, Johnny, Reflective, or whoever you really are?
