The MTC meeting today was, as always, very dignified and, while politically correct in some ways, also very much focused on religious heritages in Maplewood. Christian and Muslim leadership called upon God to help us. A wonderful singer opened the meeting with "America the Beautiful", she gave a marvelous rendition of "He has the whole world in His Hands," and closed with everyone joining in with God Bless America." I have one problem. For many years, cub scouts, boy and girl scouts groups presented the colors. Now the police did an excellent job today, but is it because we are at war that the military, rifle toting presentation was made? The kids always gave the meeting a feeling IMHO that that is why we were all here. To raise families in a wonderful community. The children experienced government in action. Have the kids been tossed out for PC reasons? Surely a representative group of kids could be collected from our schools to participate in the TC meeting. What do you think? |

We have had a morale problem within the MPD in recent years. One way the township has succeeded in making the police feel more appreciated is by including their honor guard in township ceremonies like this one. I think this was more a question of being pro-police honor guard than anti-scouts. |

Why either or? The children could have some role to play. |

Agreed. The original plan was to have just the police honor guard at the Veteran's Day ceremony this past November. Reason prevailed and the veteran's honor guard was also invited to participate. Surely, the scouts could participate in the January 1 ceremony in a similar manner. |

Hello everyone! I'm not quite sure what the situation is with the high students walking up Parker Ave after school just as far as all of the noise and the police constantly patroling the area at that time but it would be nice if someone could clear that up for me. Thanks ! |

Columbia High School is on Parker Avenue. The kids who walk to/from the high school and who live east of the high school generally walk up Parker Avenue to get home. Nothing unusual about that. |

Oh ok. Thanks for your input. Over the past couple of years, I have heard a lot of talk about the students being disruptive after school and loitering on school grounds. The residents immediately surrounding the campus were especially passionate. Other people were just being critical of Columbia’s “appearance”. I was interested to see what all of your views on the situation are. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with the conduct of the students with the exception of the sporadic confrontations that occur. However, I know that a lot of citizen believe that there is a problem and would really like to hear from those who do. |
