We are going to seek a variance to have A/C units placed closer than the allowed 25' from the property line. Can those of you with experience offer any advice? Thanks. |

When I went for my variance, another couple was there for the same thing you are doing. The board approved them, I think they just had to plant some shrubs to hide them. Just make sure the noise level is within the limit and your neighbors don't object Good Luck |

My guess is, as Grw says, is getting your neighbors on board so they don't object. |

I have found that there is no problem is you are installing a SER14 unit. They are very quiet. |

A little off the subject, but speaking of structures near your neighbor's property line: in October our next door neighbor installed a freakin' oil tank on the side of her property, about 6 inches from our property line. A copper line leads from the tank into her basement window, and the smell of oil is noticeable when we walk by. It's a big, rusting hulk, propped up on concrete blocks which are now starting to sink into the ground as a result of weather events. I was told that this is, of course, a code violation, the code being the same one relating to the 25 foot rule. Our guess is that she has a leaky underground tank, and this is a temporary measure. We don't get along with this lady, which makes discussing this eyesore difficult. Approached her once, she barked that it was temporary, and that was all she had to say. what should I do? I am getting more and more upset about it.

MCK: Call the town building department and ask for an inspection. This sounds like a possible fire and environmental hazard as well as a building code violation. |
