I think that, as a libertarian, you do it yourself, rather than ask the authorities for help.

(Actually, I think you call PSE&G...I need to call again since they never came and relit mine after plowed snow jostled it off)

Mea culpa, I'm thinking South Orange gaslamps...for Maplewood electrics, I've no clue what the protocol is.

(too late at night if I can't remember which board I'm on)

Each streetlight has a metal plate on the pole with a number on it.Call PSE&G and tell them the number and location of the light. They usually send a truck at night to fix it.Good luck..

Many years ago the police department asked to be notified. Any time I notified them of a light being out it was fixed fast. Give them a call at 763-1234.

Mr. Maplewood: That was the pre-911 emergency number for the Maplewood Police Department. I don't think it has been an active number for years.

Maplewood Police Department's non-emergency number is now 973-762-3400.

mrmaplewood is correct in that the police will get a much quicker response and they do make these calls for you.

Joan, the 762-1234 number still connects you to the police dispatcher.

Thanks. Is it still considered to be an emergency (alternative to 911) number or should it be used for non-emergency situations such as malfunctioning street lights?

I guess it would be considered an alternative being that a dispatcher answers the phone. But you should always use 911 for an emergency. If your calls comes in on the 911 line they assume it is an emergency. If your call comes in on the 762-1234 line they ask if it is an emergency first, or they will answer and tell you to please hold.
