My estimate is that about 3,600 people voted. I am assuming that all the voters who voted for Ian or Fred also voted for another candidate. Since their totals were so close this is probably correct. The voters who voted for Vic may or may not have voted for another candidate so 1,700 and 1,900 is around 3,600.

Makes sense to me, if not to anybody else. Eventually when the votes are certified to the county the actual number of voters will be released.

Based on nothing more than a guess and the general tone around town, I think about half of Vic's votes were bullets, which decreased the totals for the other candidates.

How the voting turns out in the General Election should be interesting.

Dave,
I have been laughing all day but that one just made my soda shoot out my nose! Ouch!
You need to add the "deluca blue" to it.

ProLuca?

De-Feta?

I was hoping Ian would win so we could have "De Man" signs all over town.

Alg: I was responding to this question of yours:was there an effort to defeat Fred by Vic supporters voting for Vic and Ian? which did, in fact, suggest a specific motivation and sounded snide to me. But perhaps I misread your post. If that is the case, I apologize.

I don't think Vic supports wanting to defeat Fred is "bad". I think that's what's it's all about -- your guy winning and getting the most powerful position. I certainly think it would have been MUCH better for Vic if it was a Vic and Ian win, don't you? Sorry I got snappy -- I am not always that good at expressing my thoughts clearly.

The election results are very close, especially between 2nd and 3rd place. Let's see how the absentee ballot count goes before making any further conjecture about how well Fred and Vic will work together.

Assuming that their names are the ones on the ballot in November, it will be interesting to see how well they work together on the campaign. This can serve as an indicator of how well they will work together on the TC.

If Vic and Fred prove to be the winners, this will give a real boost to the Republican candidate since Vic and Fred have such very different platforms that some voters, who would normally vote the straight party ticket, may not be able to support both of the democratic candidates.

Alg, I don't have a strong opinion about whether it would have been better for Vic if Ian had won and I don't honestly care. I actually think it is better for Maplewood to have two strong leaders who both really care about the town. I expect them to fight for the things they believe strongly in and to compromise when the issue is not such a big deal. In other words, I expect them to act like grownups, putting Maplewood first rather than their egos.

Joan, others have posted that the absentee ballots were already tallied and included in today's numbers. I'm interested to know whether Ian will request a recount. But I'd understand if he decided to let it go since it seems evident that Fred is the stronger of the two politically speaking.

My guess is that Grodman would not suggest a recount, since he and Profeta are allies and Profeta is clearly the stronger personality of the two.

It would certainly diminish Profeta's power even further if Grodman were to demand a recount.

"The voters who voted for Vic may or may not have voted for another candidate so 1,700 and 1,900 is around 3,600."

Democrats 3,600 voters

Deluca 1,900 with bullet votes?

Profeta 1,700 with spare vote to cast?

Republicans, say at least 1,600 with a spare vote to cast??????

Do the math... It ain't over until it's over!

Then both make a beeline for the lone republican candidate.....

Seriously, how will vic explain all those lies about Fred, to him and the rest of us, if they ever have to "work together"?
Examples: The lies written in the handwritten note from vic that went out to "East Maplewood" detailing how "Fred will use eminent domain to steal your home", and, "500 units on Burnett".

DAve;

Please add an olive branch to your Deluca/Profeta sign above. The message they need to send is that they are able to work together for the good of the town.

I would happily put that sign in my yard!

John,

Personally I think that organizations should be free to endorse whoever they care to in whatever cause towards whatever means the organizations feel their aims are collectively best served. It is up to donors to decide whether to continue to donate or not. Donor means willing donations, -it's not like it's a tax obligation.

Specifically: the PBA has made endorsements before, -it is not a secret nor should it be.
Additionally, - as to any organization whose aim is to change state policies, -as Tip O'Neil said, " All politics is local".
