Got mine too.

I must say, I couldn't find anything in it that lets folks know that this is the only one this year. I'm disappointed in that.

I've got to say that this has been extraordinarily bungled. At least once a week my wife asks me when the bulk pickup is (we missed the one in the fall because it fell on the Friday after Thanksgiving and we were away). I would tell her not to worry, we'd get a flyer in the mail.

Imagine my surprise on coming home tonight to see piles of debris on our neighbor's lawns. And there it was: the flyer in the mail. No time to plan, just get everything out to the curb.

I've been hearing rumblings about it for months, it seems like a little more lead time should still have been possible. And I too think that once a year is not enough.

I have lived here for almost 18 years, and have never seen anything like the sheer rudeness to the citizens of Maplewood involved in this year's bulk refuse schedule, specifically by how late the schedule was mailed out. First of all, having only one pickup this year and not making that clear is appalling. On top of that, for those of us who live in districts 9 and 8 and work full time, it is terribly inconsiderate of the town committee to give us such short notice about our only pick up. Again, there is nothing in the brochure that mentions the extra days for those of us in those districts. I was informed of that when I was voting at the Municipal Building today, but also was informed that I could only register a complaint to the town committee by either attending the meeting tonight (which I couldn't do on such short notice) or by wrting letters (which would of course do no good, because they would arrive after the fact). As if I didn't need another reminder as to why this primary election has been so hotly contested! Nevertheless, how appropriate that another "done deal" was announced on primary day!

The flyer said "Spring" so there must be another pick up in the Fall, logically speaking

So who is paying the added expense of covering zones 8 and 9 for more than one day? Waste Management or the taxpayer?

It would be nice to see an official statement from the TC concerning how badly mailing out the notices was handled.

As per Maplewood communications ordinance 1040:NJ1040; section 13, the mailings of the notices were conducted exactly to design. That section reads in part, “just think about it and they should know, tell no one and they can’t complain and tape public notices under the counter top at the coffee place at the train station.”

Can you tell this issue is bothering me?

Way back at the beginning of this thread, it was written that one pick-up is paid for by the Town (taxes) and the other pick-up cost is built in to our quarterly Waste Management bill.

Since the town cut one pick-up, the only remaining pick-up is being paid for by Waste Management customers.

So it looks like R2boy (and anyone else that does not use WM) is getting a free ride this year.

Enjoy it while you can R2boy, it's probably the only thing you'll get for free in this town.

Ed, to get that 2nd pickup your taxes would have had to go up another $1,000.

So, call the trash company, and order your 2nd pickup, pay them the $50 and look what you saved!

There is no fall bulk pick-up in Maplewood this year. The town moved to one pick up a year to save on expenses and we have already had it.
