Once again it looks like there has been no plowing in the Hilton section. The streets are terrible, the rest of the town is fine. I am sick of being the ugly step sister to the town. |

We had no plows either. I don't think it was just the Hilton section. |

There were no plows - I think that the main streets are clear simply because of traffic volume. The streets around Maplecrest Park were covered in sheets of ice at the corners and curbs. |

I have seen no evidence of plowing anywhere, so I don't think any particular section is being ignored this time. Hopefully they will figure out by tonight that the plows need to come out of the mothballs. |

No plowing, but we saw the salt truck come by in our neighborhood (Clinton School). I'm not a big believer in plowing for under 3 inches of snow (considering limited budget for the town). |

I guess if one see herself as a victim, or ugly step-sister (uggh!), then one will find ample justification to prove her point. This is a classic. |

No plowing on my street (Tuscan area), but the traffic did melt away some of the snow. I fear the ice |

There was no plowing in my area of South Orange either. We're due for another 4-6 inches tonight! |

The sun seems to have cleared away much of the snow on the streets around me but the streets are still very wet from the under melt. Prepare for icing overnight with the likelihood of a thin coat of fresh snow over that by morning. |

None of the streets in Maplewood were plowed yesterday. However, every street in Maplewood was salted. There wasn't enough snow to plow. Plowing versus Salting is a judgement call. We have to take in to consideration the cost compared to the safety issues. It is not an easy decision to make nor is it one we take lightly. Also, there isn't any section in town that gets preferential treatment when it comes to snow plowing. The town is divided in to about 14 sections and each section is assigned a truck. All the trucks go out at just about the same time. All streets in town (including dead ends)should have a plow on it no later than two hours after we start plowing. We tell the guys to open the middle of the roads first and then go back and open the road completely. The only differnce in sections will be that some of the guys plow better than others.

Well that explains it eb. Public Works must put the better plowers on the better streets. Confess. Confess. |

If streets were not plowed Sunday, why did I see a plow driving down Prospect around 9am? |

I can promise you it wasn't a Township plow you saw on Sunday. Wendy, I do confess, but there is a reason for that. The better plow drivers need to go on the hills. If you don't know what you're doing up there you'll get killed. Eric |

EB , why is it that cars that are left overnight on the streets in a snowstorm , are not ticketed . I see it happens a lot on Hilton ave especially. Because when the plows come by , it is impossible to plow the street properly . And then the cars owners would dig their car out and throw all the snow in the middle of the steet.Just like they do in NYC. Why can't those cars be towed , after 2 am in a snow emergency ?? |

Those cars should be given a ticket from the PD. If you see cars on your street between 2 and 6 call the PD. We can't tow unless the state declares a State of Emergency. We have a major problem with the cars parking on the street in the entire Hilton section. Even though you are allowed to park in the street from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. you really should keep your car off the street as soon as the snow starts to stick. |

EB and everyone else-thanks for clarifying the salting/plowing and the justification of which method to use when. I also live in the Hilton section (going on 7 months) and I am equally tired of some people having a complex about "living on the other side of the tracks..." Maybe things were once worst before us NYers arrived, but compared to where I use to live (Brooklyn-a gentrified neighborhood), My family and I now have peace and quiet ( have anyone of you ever tried going to sleep with hip hop blasting out of a parked car right outside your bedroom window at least 3 [late] nights a week?) , decent schools, tough cops and friendly neighbors who actually care what goes on around them. We may also have a smaller abode/property but it comes at a fraction of the taxes that the poor mopes in the center of town are paying!... According to my realtor, the Hilton Section is where its at and the best value in town right now... Thats right, cheers baby!Poor me another one! Don't fret it Slippy...the force is still with you.... |
