Welcome Christina to the neighborhood! I live a block away on Coolidge Rd. We moved here over 5 years ago and I felt the same way, moving from the city to a suburb that I wasn't familiar with. I think you will love the area. We have the best neighbors and everyone is very friendly and sharing. If you have children, you will love Clinton School. The teachers are great, the new principal is very involved and the PTA is outstanding. When we first moved here I thought we would eventually trade up, but I am very much in love with my neighborhood and don't have any plans on moving (renovating definitely!) You will find the entire Maplewood/South Orange Community very active. Keep an eye on MOL's Community Calendar, there is always a wealth of activities from plays and concerts to social groups and volunteer organizations to participate in. I know you won't regret moving here, JML |

I just posted on the other thread you started. We moved here from Brooklyn three years ago and live just around the corner from Clinton (on Burr). We love our neighbors, our neighborhood, and our school. We have made many very dear friends and feel like we've been here much longer than we have. You'll meet tons of other transplanted Brooklyn-ites and New Yorkers and because it is a relatively small town, it's fairly easy to get involved in various activities and meet people quickly. I can't say enough wonderful things about Clinton. My oldest daughter is a first-grader there and we've had an amazing experience at the school these past two years. The parent community is committed, talented, creativ, and fully of energy. The staff is outstanding and the school is a warm, welcoming, and stimulating place. Welcome to the 'hood. |

We live on Burroughs Way.........just a few doors from Clinton. My son is in fourth grade there. I won't repeat what everyone else has said here....but we've been very happy in the 'hood and don't regret our move from Brooklyn. It's a great place to live! It's harder to meet the neighbors when everyone is hiding inside from the cold, but you'll meet loads of people as time goes on. Also consider attending the "Newcomers Club" for Maplewood.......a sure fire way to get involved in town.

mjh- Doesn't that area have an active Neighborhood Association? I think there are several different people having open house holiday parties for the neighbors. Maybe one of them can see to it Christina is invited? |

Yes there is an active neighborhood association. I've been too busy to pay attention, but I'll see if I can find out about the holiday party. I know there was one scheduled, but we could have missed it 'cause we've had a way crazy couple of months........... |
