Hi Again, Since this is our first home and Maplewood is a new neighborhood, I am very nervous and unsure about a lot of things. I know the home that we are purchasing has an alarm system installed. I believe we will have to call to get it hooked up. Does anyone recommend a security/alarm system company? I only know of ADT. I am not sure what the previous owners had and if we will need to stick with the company they have. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will we need to use the company the previous owners used or can any alarm com pany hook us up with the existing alarm? Should I be really concerned with Buglary where we live, I mean EXTRA cautious? i know everywhere has crime but I am pretty unfamiliar with our block and the Maplewood area in general. We will be living on Union Ave, right by the Clinton school. So sorry for my inexperience but we never owned a home before and we are moving from an apartment in brooklyn. You guys have been so helpful to me and patient with my crazy questions. thank you so much and Happy New year. Christina |

Check to see who the previous owners used. That company may have installed it. It's been my experience that other companys don't want to use the equipment that another company has installed, and may try to get you to buy a system from them. In addition to ADT, there is Slomin's. There are also most likely some local companies. As for the necessity, I always think that if it makes you sleep better at night and not worry when you are on vacation (regardless of the crime rate), it is worth the extra expense. |

We are new from Brooklyn too! We signed up with Guardian. The house already had a system and that is basically the only thing that prompted me to get one. We havent turned it on yet but my 2 yr old son did hit the panic button and the police did respond in a timely manner. So far I guess my experiences have been positive. I tried to use the same local company that the previous owners used but unfortunately i couldnt. we have our phone through the cable co. and most companies cannot provide service unless you are using the phone co for service. just something to keep in mind. if you have a regular phone line i dont think any co would turn away your business. they will try to use the existing system. if they cant they will install a new one and most co's seem to offer the system for free if you sign up for service. good luck! |
