I'm surprised a follow-up hasn't been posted by anyone yet. Well, it's not too late...

The turn out was lighter than last year, although there was still a sizable group of residents who were in attendance for the meeting. The dedication by Mayor Profeta to the memory of Mayor Robert H. Grasmere was appreciated by all.

Congratulations are of course in order for Fred, Vic, and especially Ken for his well deserved election as Maplewood’s new Vice Mayor…

There were several other interesting areas to comment on as well. The Mayor’s address highlighted the many fine accomplishments of last year, and the setting of an exciting and challenging agenda for 2006. Former Mayor DeLuca sounded very much like his old self with his own equally aggressive plans for Maplewood in the New Year. I have to admit I was some what taken off guard by his public coming-out as being a Liberal “Left Wing” Democrat, and Proud of it as well! Who would have ever thought?

I could go on, but I won’t hog all the comments. This is especially as I saw there were a number of other well respected Molers also there in attendance. I’m confident some of the other individual and more political suggestions by the New Alliance of Mayors and wanabe Mayors will generate some lively debate shortly.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention the good taste shown by the Township Committee to have the Boy Scouts, my old Troop 5 from Seth Boyden do the Presentation of Colors, and having Reginald Heard, Soloist, from the Newark Boys Chorus sing the Anthem.

Finally, having drinks and light fair in the entrance way was also in good taste and I’m sure much appreciated by everyone. My only regret was I didn’t roll the piano out for Art, Willie, and Jim B to entertain us all a little…. Maybe next year?

...BTW, tonight's Township Committee meeting is not being shown live? Now that Vic is back I had to go down and get the agenda to make sure there were no no parking ordinances being read...

Seriously, it's not hard to understand why incumbents get re-elected. It's because they can start off running...

The committee tonight is at full strength and it will be interesting to see if they can put all this experienced talent into fighting Maplewood’s problems rather than their past political differences. In my short visit, so far, so good...
