I see on the Village website, a BOT Special Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (January 18). Since this week is typically an "off week", does anyone know what this meeting is for? |

jayjay, Based on past history, I wouldn't be surprised if Wednesday's meeting is for Jack Abramoff to be named to the Ethics Board, Tom Delay to be nominated for the Fundraising Committee and Trent Lott to be named to the Community Coalition on Race. |

An architect from the Hillier Group will give a presentation to the BoT and invited developers and other stake-holders on LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a program for sustainable building standards developed by the US Green Building Council. I don't think there will be any business conducted in that meeting but to make sure please call the Clerk's office 973.378.7715 |

Eric: Can you please tell us what developers in town have accepted their invitation to this presentation? I know Trustee Jennings mentioned a few of the invitees during the last meeting. |

Last night's presentation was interesting, but what is to come of it? I'm glad Calabrese et al "learned something," but was there some intention beyond educating them as to what "green" buildings are all about? Maybe somebody should educate them as to what building maintenance is all about. The state of our village buildings is deplorable. |

There was a presentation by some organization which sets criteria for certifying buildings or new construction as "green", i.e. environmentally sound/energy efficient, etc. Unfortunately, I missed the intro, so I don't know who brought them in or why they were there. At the end, Calabrese thanked them for a good presentation and said he learned something (duh!), and then the meeting adjourned. No discussion, no action, no anything. |

Were there any of the towns "prominent" developers present? You would think that if they had a vested interest in the town then they would be there to support this type of lecture as construction has not begun on many of their projects. |

Jayjay: The meeting last night was supposed to be a presentaion only. No discussion, no action and nothing else was to be done. The Planning Board originally asked the presentation to be shown to the Planning & Zoning Committee and to the Energy Committee. That was done a couple of months ago. Last night's presentation was for the public and the BOT. Developers were invited. Someone from SOPAC, Sterling (New Market), the historical society ( old stone house) and from the firm that is preparing a report on village hall and the library (repairs needed, cost estimates, etc). Mayor Fred Profetta of Maplewood was there too. It will be up to the planning and zoning committee and the planning board to discuss any follow-up, actions, etc. There were some questions asked afterwards about legal issues and if there is anyway to "force" a developer to be certified (by LEED's). My guess is that a lot of developers, architects, engineers, etc have already seen presentations or seminars and probably did not feel a need to see a very basic one at this point.
