Around 5:00 today, part of Montrose Ave was closed off (between Grove and ??? I can't remember the name of the next street West of Grove.) There seemed to have been a car accident, but I couldn't tell. There was a fire engine and some cops. Anyone know?

A van ran smack into a tree. My best guess is that the van was traveling at a high speed (typical of most of the vehicles traveling through Montrose nowadays) and could not navigate the bend in the road.

The van tried to avoid a speeding car, which could not negotiate the town built traffic circle hazard, and the car did not stop.
The van supposedly was transporting handicapped children.
It was not a speeding van.
All of this info is second hand, from eyewitness, to friend of an eyewitness, to this writer.
Maybe third hand, but better than conjecture.

Thank you.
But, having read my town tax statement, I must go back to work.

Thanks for clarifying Joel. I figured someone had to be speeding (and that wonderful circle was involved).

Welcome to MOL.

A van carrying handicapped young adults swerved to miss a car pulling out of Grove that had cut them off. There was no speeding involved - for once!!! Several of the passengers were trapped under the dashboard of the car and had to be cut out. It was really scary. Both trapped passengers were transported in ambulances. I have no idea of their status. I assume the matter is being investigated.

Do you know if the police are trying to identify the car and driver?

Can anyone clarify which Grove? Was the car that cut off the van coming off of Grove TERRACE or off of Grove ROAD?

I saw the aftermath of the accident. From what I saw, the van must have been traveling East on Montrose Avenue toward Centre Street as it had hit a tree on the South side of the street by the twin brick homes near Grove Road. Which, would mean the van was already well past the traffic circle when the accident occurred.

It was a horrible scene. On several other occasions I have seen cars coming East on Montrose hit gas lamps as well as street signs on that side of the street near the very same location.
