Can someone please explain why S.O. still insists on charging 75 dollars for a license, when as of Jan.1st,all H.I.C.contractors were required to register with the state to get a license, much like plumbers & electrians, who were exempt from local licensing by virtue of the state license. |

The exemption is for residential. For commerical work, the contractor must register and pay. It is typical - S. Orange in not unique with this fee or requirement. |

My mistake. When I originally called I was given the wrong info. When I called back, they checked, and then confirmed what mrosner posted.Heads up to homeowners.Anyone doing any type of home imp. in N.J.is required to be licensed by the state. To get the license, you must submit proof of a minimum of 500,000 liability insurance. The state issues both wallet size and office size I.D.cards.You should ask to see it prior to signing any contract. |
