By the time this storm is over we're excepted to have a significant amount of snow (supposedly between 10-16 inches). I'd like to make a suggestion. Instead of the usual threads complaining about those who didn't clear their walk, please keep on eye out for your neighbors. If you notice no lights on in the house for an extended amount of time, and the walk isn't cleared call them on the phone and ask if they're OK. Don't know their phone number? Go ring the bell! Especially if your neighbors are elderly or in poor health. Also believe it or not, there are people in our two towns who are struggling to make ends meet. Some might not have heat. If you suspect one of your neighbors might not have heat but you don't want to ask them into your home, let them know they can go to the Community Center where it is warm. If you know a neighbor is ill or elderly and you have a snow blower, consider doing their walk as well. I would hate to read in the paper a few days from now someone in South Orange or Maplewood lost their life because nobody cared enough to check on them. |
