I'm not sure what happened with the MOLer from village hall concerning recent posts. Apparently an IP address from South Orange Village Hall was suspended for reasons deemed inappropiate or malicious by the moderator. I remember writing a post about a year ago that was intended to make people laugh. It was a post about snowstorms and the correct way to deal with them as far as S.O. DPW was concerned. What I failed to mention was that it was my own opinion and not that of the Dept. of Public Works. That was my mistake. A few days later I was brought up to Village Hall where I was blind-sided with disciplinary actions taken against me. I was stripped of 5 vacation days. Keep in mind that all my posts are written on my own time.
Now this IP address that was suspended is from South Orange Village Hall. Which leads me to believe that the offending posts were written on town time.
Village Hall felt the need to relieve me of vacation days for expressing MY opinion on MY time. So wouldn't it seem fair that the guilty party at Village Hall recieve the same treatment for doing the same thing, if not worse, on TOWN TIME?
If that's not the case, then I feel that I'm in a very good position to demand that my 5 days vacation time be reinstated.
Otherwise, my right to the freedom of speech has been violated. |

I agree with you ONE HUNDRED PERCENT~But how do you know the person involved wasn't punished in some way? I think you should look into the situation. Sorry to hear you lost vacation time last year because of a post. |

I'm glad this topic has come to light because it has been bothering me since I heard about the inappropriate actions taken by the village. I hope the wrongs are corrected so people who work hard for the village aren't treated like 2nd class Americans. Particularly the honest ones who come forward. |

A year or so ago, Parrothead posted a joke about snow removal on MOL and had 5 vacation days taken away from him. The guy works harder than anyone I know and he was even fearful to say a word about it on MOL. I only heard about the details recently and was shocked that John Gross would be so completely out of line. Knowing now that other people from Village Hall are not only telling jokes, but outright insulting residents, I would like to see Parrothead's vacation days restored because it's the right thing to do. It's likely it won't happen, but it may be a good idea to do so for all involved. |

Thanks Dave. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. It's too bad you're the decent person your are. Otherwise the person at Village Hall would be toast.

Another question. Did you suspend Parrot last year? If not, Parrot that's all the more reason you should so something about this. Considering I was the one the person from 'Village Hall' attacked; perhaps I should go to Village Hall and make some noise about this.
If I'm not satisfied with the results, maybe I'll write a letter to the Snooze Wreckered or something. Would this help you PArrot? |

No, never suspended him.
I don't think it's healthy for our government to start Soviet-style witch hunts into what citizens are writing on a web site, so I think PH's vacation days should be returned to him rather than wasting more time rounding up f_rizzo (who was posting from Village Hall whereas PH was not, btw). |

Parrot Head, how on earth did John Gross find out who you are? (And why didn't you deny it?) Could he possibly prove you are Parrot Head?
I didn't read your snow removal posts, but based on what I've read here you should get your days back at a minimum.
(Don't you know a lawyer-friend you could talk to to see if you could pursue this without spending huge $?) |

Parrot Head - Pdg asked one of my questions - how did they know it was you? Next question: Aren't the DPW guys unionized? If not, here's a perfect reason why they should be. If you are.. why didn't you file a grievance? If your story is all that there is to the story, it is absurd that the Administrator got away with this mean and vindictive action against you. |

What time does Village Hall usually close? The Frank Russo post was made at 4:36pm. Chatterbox's 8:15pm. It was Wednesday 15 February.
I just called the Village Hall and spoke to Mr. Gross' Assistant. She seemed to imply Parrot might not have lost the five days pay. Parrot, I believe you, but if need be; can you back up what you're saying? She also said the Village Hall found not being able to post on MOL 'humorous.' I was also told the Ross brothers will not let Village Hall employees post their side(s) of the stories (and 'the truth') concerning some of the accusations regarding some of the issues people have brought up.
I asked if it could be proven the other person did in fact loose five days pay, would the town be willing to dock this other person TEN because they made two personal attacks on an individual from a Village Hall computer; attacks which resulted in being suspended from MOL.
I pointed out with all the rumors floating around town lately I would think the Village Hall would want to do the right thing. Doesn't seem like they want to do this. So, Parrot, if you decide you want to do something about this, please let me know. I'd be more then happy to back you up. |

JTA - I'd suggest that you hold off backing Parrot up until he responds to my questions. Remember there are always two sides to a story and if Parrot was disciplined in any way for mearly posting a joke on MOL on his own time, he'd have one helluva Union-backed grievance. There must be more to the story. |

I was the one who drew the line that connected the idea of 5 vacation days to 5 days of pay - not Mr. Parrot Head. Thinking that, well, when you take a day off they pay you for that day. Now you can't take that day off and still get paid for it. So there's that.......
I will say that I am very thankfull that no one knows where I work.....as I shudder to think of someone other than me calling my place of employment about one of my issues.

The woman who said we don't let people post "their sides" of a story is simply wrong. Anyone can speak about any issues on MOL. To my recollection I have never deleted someone's "side" of a story. The only subject censorship filter is topics dealing with juveniles. |

I agree there are two sides. That's why I asked if he could prove what he's said. I would think if it wasn't true, he wouldn't have posted it knowing Village Hall employees read MOL.
As for 'Union-backed grievance,' I agree with you on that too. I am pretty sure I asked Parrot about a union too. And another great point you made -how'd they know who PH was? |

I'm confused.
If posting on MOL is a no-no worthy of "loosing" 5 vacation days, why is South Orange disturbed at "loosing" it's posting privileges? Seems to me, John Gross should have demanded Dave or Jamie block the IP address immediately after Parrothead-gate.
Maybe we're not getting the whole truth and nothing but the truth. |

I did not call Parrot's place of employment. I called the Village Hall over the other person posting the notes (that were directed toward me) that resulted in the Village Hall loosing the ability to post to MOL.
Back when it happened I didn't care. Then I saw Parrot's note and felt it was very unfair he / she gets into trouble from VH when he wasn't suspended from MOL, nor was he posting from MOL.
Sorry if I confused you. Hope that makes it clearer.
I asked why someone else who works for the town looses five vacation days for posting something funny on his own time and own computer is punished but not someone who posts from a Village Hall computer on town time. |

JTA- Please call my place of employment at will. I am unleashing a campaign of terror on my current employers. This goes for all in MOL land who know me as well.
When calling my boss please do the following:
1) speak loudly and do not allow room for retort
2) explain to my supervisor that the business could not run without me.
3) make bold and outlandish accusations ie; "Matt Foley is the bee's knees". or "Mr. Foley looks quite fetching in chaps. I think you should permit him to wear them at work."

Parrot Head- I enjoy your posts, but as I recall this is not the first time you've had "poster's regret" after saying something regarding fellow employees- I believe the firemen and police took umbrage a while back. You may want to consider a sounding board before posting your more controversial thoughts- maybe a wife or fellow employee who could factor in the possible repercussions.
Just an idea. But please stay active on MOL- we've all posted something that later gave us pause. |

I can't agree with you more. Das Parrot often sticks his foot in his mouth. I am a buddy of his and tell him this often.
However, I enjoy the "sexy results" that often follow.
