Dave, that is not fair.
First you try to take my MOL away from me during the first week of quitting smoking. Now you hold the MOL over my head while I am struggling. You are not a nice person.
I would feel better if you could ban Michael for a week for not having a sense of humor and for being overly sensative in public.
Don't people have better things to do then sit and criticize other peoples jokes. People like that are the ones who should be banned. |

Can you please explain to me why this infraction does not deserve the same treatment - i.e. permanent ban and block - as Rizzo's infraction?
Your 3:51 pm. post above tries to make light of a distasteful and grotesque remark against a human being.
I would imagine that you would want to maintain some degree of decency and decorum in the MOL threads. The statement:
"... I was walking down the street and I thought I was smelling a dead body, but it was just him",
was about a public employee known by most of the readers of MOL. Joke or not, smoking addiction or not, statements like that about a person should not be allowed on this board; they are not conducive to civility, and respect within the threads of MOL.
I am really disappointed that you have different standards for different people, as your final decision demonstrates.

After many years of moderating it gets really easy to see when someone creates a throw-away account for the reason of insulting someone. It's true I give people with more posts more of a benefit of a doubt because more posts represent a commitment and serves as a reputation system. So I think if standards are different, it's by that standard. |

Some people really need to lighten up, It's a fsckin joke, I've known morons who could have gotten it better, that being said, I would have said, ...I was walking down the street and I thought I was smelling a rotten fart from mangy diseased dog, but it was just him". But I try not to make too many jokes....
Now as for free speech, it's just as free here on the board as it is free to shut the fsck up and ignore things, or just don't read them.
Now as far as attacking Dave, this isn't your playground, it's Dave & Jamie's playground, it's not a democracy, they can do what they will.
There doesn't have to be fair play here, there is the just the Ross Rules, subject to change whenever they want, if they want to ban you for something unrelated to the board, hey guess what...maybe you smell lot a diseased dogs fart, or you pissed them off, if they wanted to just ban you, guess what....
Not that they would do that, but it is their board, not yours, not mine, and not your mothers....
Banning IP addresses, go for it, most people when nbanned this way would be at odds as to how to figure out how to get around that and post anyway. |

One reason to raise the standards of a "free speech" board is so that it attracts people rather than alienates them, so that people will look to it as a force for the good rather than squandered opportunities for it. Freedom to denigration is not a freedom many care to exercise or to be around.
But freedom to improve the quality of life of a town you care about, now that's a freedom worth pursuing and protecting.
People are hoping you will protect worthwhile freedoms rather than vacuous ones, Dave. Some freedoms destroy others. Which are most important to you? How will you protect one from the other?

McCheese's efforts to end his smoking habit will succeed only upon his death. It has been copiously revealed to those of Us on the Ethereal Plane (at least those of Us who have so little interest in seeing that Japanese woman win the gold in Torino that We resort to scanning these threads during the regular Thursday night poker game) that he lacks the requisite
*common sense,
*strength of will,
*mental toughness,
*sensitivity to his own melifluous aura (otherwise known as "smelling like an ashtray"),
*assortment of diversionary activities (otherwise known as "a life")
*and external support systems (otherwise known as "friends")
to quit his unfortunate and costly habit.
How interesting that those same deficits contribute to his continued posting here on MOL...
Banning Mayor McCheese would be the humane and compassionate act of a responsible and caring moderator. Allowing him to continue spewing his noxious piffle is the act of an enabler.
