At last night's BOT meeting, a member of the Community Relations Committee mentioned an "incident" which happened last week at the SOMS. It appeared that this has become a problem and the resident said that it was becoming "systemic." A meeting is scheduled so that villagers, the Chief of Police and 2 or 3 trustees can discuss the matter. Can anyone shed some light on what these incidents were? |

Let us commence an open-hearted conversation with the participation of an elected official (Eric/Mark) who may have some further understanding to share with his constitutents. |

At this point, the BOT has not been given any report on the incident referred to last night. I have requested information to be passed on to the the BOT. When I find out, I will post such info. A better source at this time would probably be someone from the BOE.

Monster, school is out. So what happened? I hope it is something stupid but annoying. Something that no one got hurt with, but something that will anger many people on this board. Ideally the situation would be something like a little girl walking into the school with a shirt with the 10 commandments written on it, and got sent home from school. That would be funny. Everyone one both sides of the debate would be mad and I would laugh a lot. Anyone else want to give their own completely insane guess as to what this is about? My daughter told me to "piss off!" so does anyone know what happened, besides the ever increasing fights that seem to be taking place. |

Perhaps if you asked in the Education thread instead of S. Orange? But first... tell the daughter to go sit in the "Naughty Chair" (must be said with a Brittish accent). |

SOL - I posted in the SO section since it was something that involves the BOT and Police Chief. It did seem to be SO specific. It seems that we will find out what the probem is in due course. The VP did say last night that he wanted to make sure that less than required no. of trustees were present at the meeting, otherwise it would have to be advertised.

I'll see if I can find out tomorrow morning. I know some kids in the Middle School. They ALWAYS know what's going on. |

What does Trustee Jennings have to say about this? Her platform was primarily about improving the state of the town's education. Comments???? |

That might have been her platform; but wouldn't she have to excuse herself from any discussions? None of the kids I asked knew anything about an 'incident.' |

Why would she have to recuse herself? Having a spouse who works at a school does not mean she has a conflict. |

Can anyone shed any light on this? Has the BOT now received any information? Any chance it's related to the discussion in the other thread? |

It must be the subject of the meeting March 15 at Baird which Mark mentions in the other thread. Mark - Have you been told anything else? |

Spitz I have a feeling this has something to do with the "fights." I was told there were suspensions handed down to students participating.

Phenix - I'm guessing it's something like that. I started this thread because it really was a little vague as to how we (meaning the Village) arrived at having a Public Safety meeting involving the Police Chief and BOT members to discuss something that took place at the middle school. The co-chair of the Community Relations Committee brought this up at a BOT meeting. Evidently some kind of committee has been set-up by the VP to serve as a liason between the BOT and BOE. I'm not sure, but that's what it sounded like. In any event, it's probably a good thing that this is being discussed on a Village-wide level. The person from the Community Relations committee (I wish I knew her name) did use the term "systemic." The good thing is that it appears to be getting addressed. For anyone who is interested, Mark has said that this will be discussed at a Public Safety meeting March 15, 7:30 pm, at the Baird. (To Mark's chagrin, this conflicts with the MOL shindig at H&S that evening.) |

Soulful - You probably know as much as anyone else posting here. That's the problem - we're trying to find out. p.s. One of the problems is that it seems some kind of liason committee was set up by the VP, and not that many people knew about it. p.p.s. - And it appears that not even the chairman of the Public Safety committee, where the matter is to be discussed, knows the details. And it doesn't seem to be his fault. |

Soulful, I know for a FACT, 10 kids were suspended for their participation in the fights outside of SOMS. Believe me, SOMS is on top of this. |

That must have happened yesterday (Thurs). The father of one of the female students actually walked to school with her. |
