Does anybody know whether there are any providers whose service consistently works in the Newstead/Reservation area. Verizon definitely does not. |

While we're at it, can anyone explain why Verizon service works perfectly at Starbucks from the front door to the muffin display, and then not at all from the cash register to the espresso bar? Something to do with the NJ Transit catenary wires? |

A discussion of the lack of cell phone coverage in Newstead can be found in the Archives through December 20, 2005. Bottom line - It's almost impossible. Perhaps one of the trustees can shed some info on the situation. I thought that least one carrier was going to install an antenna on the water tower in North Newstead. This was at least two years ago. |

Let's face it. Verizon hands out maps showing 100% coverage in New Jersey. I'd like to see how many people want to put out a contract on that "can you hear me now" guy. They are full of doodoo. |

It's not just Verizon (although the sales person at the Verizon store told me that he's familiar with this area, and it's prabably the only area in N.J. where you can't get coverage.) Nevertheless, I strongly urge the BOT to try to do something about the cell phone coverage. Besides the fact that it is convenient, and nice to have, it's really become something more than a luxury. I don't thing it's exaggerating things to say that a times, it could be an emergency which could have been taken care of had there been cell phone coverage. |

not the only area in nj without coverage by a long shot!! Old Short Hills Rd has dead spots, and many other areas of the state do too. |

Do the trustees know anything about this issue, particulary carriers which have either talked about putting an antenna on the water tower in North Newstead or any carrier that has done so? |

Some people have said that they can get a signal with AT&T Wireless. Not sure if that's true, but maybe somewith with AT&T can comment. |

My recollection is that it was AT&T that was going to put an antenna on the water tower a couple of years ago. (They probably did just as I was switching from AT&T to Verizon.) |

I think once AT&T merged with SBC and now that Cingular is part of it, somehow AT&T supposedly nows gets the signal. But that needs confirmation from someone who has it. |

I can confirm that Cingular (formally AT&T) has very good coverage in the newstead. I would switch if I didn't have a contract with Verizon. |

Ditto for decent Cingular/AT&T service lower down the hill in Upper Wyoming. |

Singlemalt, can you confirm Cingular service on Glenview, and near the Newstead school? If so, I think I may be switching. |

Dan, You have 14 days to try Cingular with no restrictions. They will let you out of your contract with no questions after the 14 day trial. Give it a shot. |

The problem is the lack of a direct line of sight to the mother ship. jd |
